Hi guys, my aim for the German society is to make it as fun as possible and make sure everyone’s involved! We really don’t want to lose the society and as a committee we will make sure everyone gets a say. As president I will always take suggestions for socials, and hope to introduce more drinking events in the future! Obviously uni can be very stressful and if I was elected president I would make sure that the society is a chill place for everyone to take time out from assignments.

Want to engage in fun German events? Did anyone say Oktoberfest? Walpurgisnacht? Have you ever thought of playing German Pictionary in the Union with other German students? Or dressing up for Karneval? Klingt das gut? Then vote for me!

I will be a great President of the German society as I am passionate about German and our local community.

I work as a Young Goethe Ambassador with the Goethe Institut and as part of my role I travel around the country visiting schools to encourage young people from before GCSE level to A-Level to pursue German in further education. I love inspiring young people through educating them on the career opportunities available to them through studying German.

Furthermore, I am also dedicated to making a valuable contribution to a global conversation about diversifying German Studies and the German curriculum. A couple of months ago, I took part in a decolonisation project in collaboration with the Goethe Institute and the Design Thinkers Academy in Amsterdam. I was working with teachers from all over the world and members of Goethe Institut Finland and Sweden. The target of the project was to develop resources to decolonise the curriculum to make German teaching more inclusive of queer people and people of colour. I conducted interviews with fellow students, including BAME students and members from the trans community to discover their experience of language learning. I am committed to ethical leadership and raising the voices of all members of our community to ensure that they feel seen and valued in their education.

Also, I am a Laidlaw Scholar working on the Project 'German at Leeds - Then and Now' at the University to learn more about how German has been taught across the history of the department at Leeds and how we can use this research to inform further strategies to decolonise the curriculum. I am specifically interested in looking at how the study and teaching of German changed across the major crises of the 20th Century - such as WWI and WWII.

As your President, I hope to engage anyone with an interest in German or Germany to get involved in our society through both German-speaking and more social events to ensure that everyone feels a part of our fantastic community!

I am also passionate about dedicating events to German customs and festivals in addition to other fun German activities. My current ideas for events are:
Oktoberfest
Walpurgisnacht - let's all dress up and celebrate a night of witches and German folklore, followed by a trip to the pub or night out
German bingo
German karaoke
German Pictionary/games evening
Karneval!! - meet other students from LCS whilst having great fun and you can even bring your fancy dress!
Trips to art galleries/museums - anyone interested in Weimar art?
German haiku competition - can you write a Haiku? Can you write it in German? Bring your friends and let's see!

I am always open to suggestions for events and am passionate about ensuring that all members of the student body feel represented by the events on offer - which means that there will be both drinking and non-drinking related events.
