The LeedsHack Lead Organiser is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the LeedsHack preparation and on-the-day running, working with the relevant members of the LeedsHack team to set and manage the timeline in order to prepare for the event successfully. This includes sponsorship, logistics, challenges, catering, health and safety, participant experience, ticketing, volunteer and mentor management, and judging. It is highly recommended that candidates for this position have been a LeedsHack organising team member previously, as familiarity with the many different and often simultaneous steps of organising LeedsHack will be extremely valuable. This role requires a high level of skills in leadership, organisation, and professional communication; the Lead Organiser will have to liaise with the SoCS, sponsors, caterers, and merchandise providers in a professional and timely manner. They must be prepared to make a significant time commitment over the summer and throughout the first semester and Christmas holidays, and be proactive in knowing what has to be done and making it happen.
Please note that other LeedsHack roles will be recruited in late May/June and there will be plenty of roles on offer, so please only go for this role if you are prepared for the significant time commitment and responsibility of Lead Organiser; otherwise, please wait for the recruitment of other roles, which will have a wider selection of requirements that may be more suitable. These will include less senior roles with opportunities for shadowing and learning in order to take on a leadership role the following year.
Responsibilities:
- Leads and coordinates all aspects of LeedsHack planning and delivery, including both preparation and on-the-day execution
- Manages the overall event timeline in collaboration with the LeedsHack organising team
- Oversees key workstreams such as sponsorship, logistics, challenges, catering, health and safety, ticketing, participant experience, volunteers, mentors, and judging
- Acts as the main liaison with SoCS, sponsors, caterers, and merchandise providers, ensuring professional and timely communication
- Provides strong leadership and organisation across multiple simultaneous tasks, proactively driving progress without supervision
- Requires significant time commitment over the summer, first semester, and Christmas holidays, and is best suited to candidates with prior LeedsHack organising experience
