The Social Secretaries are key to the society community. They are responsible for envisaging, planning, and running social events throughout the year to support and encourage all our members to socialise and build community. They will also help publicise events from across the society and ensure wellbeing during events.

The role of the social secretaries could include things like: planning the summer ball, fridge2fridge events, pub socials, quizzes, society welcome socials, bragging rights tournament, and non-alcoholic socials.

A successful social secretary should: be involved with the computer science student group, have experience or a good understanding of planning and organising events, have good time management and budgeting skills, be able to touch grass and socialise with people. The role starts in August and requires forethought before the year starts (union event venues need booking 6 weeks in advance, the summer ball planning began in October). In summary, the role is very rewarding but does require commitment and good time management.

Responsibilities:

  • Organising social events for the society
  • Publicising social society events
  • Directing society culture
  • Ensuring the appropriate safety and wellbeing measures are followed during social events
