Hi, I’m Youssef, and I’m running for President of the Computing Society. My goal is to strengthen the society by focusing on what really matters for your future: real experience, practical skills, and strong opportunities after graduation.
I plan to organise regular hackathons, mini-hackathons, and collaborative project sessions every two weeks, where members can work on real-world projects in areas such as web development, DevOps, software engineering, data science, and cybersecurity. These projects will give you something valuable to put on your CV and help you stand out when applying for internships and graduate roles.
At the same time, the society will continue to run social events and activities, because enjoying your university experience is just as important. I know many students feel uncertain about their career path and how to break into the industry. My aim is to make sure you feel supported, confident, and prepared, so you can graduate as a strong candidate for a wide range of roles.
A key focus will also be building strong relationships with sponsors, not just for financial support, but to create real opportunities for our members. This includes internships, placement years, and even graduate roles, helping University of Leeds students connect directly with industry.
Finally, I want to increase the visibility of our society across the UK, showcasing the talent at the University of Leeds and strengthening our reputation for producing skilled, job-ready graduates.

## My experience

### Gaming and interests officer in CompSoc this year

- Personally organized Pixel Bar Mario Kart tournament
- Initiated and carried out monthly CrossRoads chill gaming sessions. Handled induction and room booking with LUU.
- Helped at society socials: Fridge-to-fridges, Industry Talk series, Bragging Rights
- Participated in LeedsHack organization, held a night chill session with Switch games (and also won a prize with my team!)

### Course representative in Year 1 and Year 2

- Collected student feedback
- Attended regular meetings with School of Computing staff to share student opinions, encourage actions to resolve any problems
- Participated in a volunteer Year 3 curriculum restructuring committee meetings to provide student perspective on future changes

From my experience you can see - I am committed to the society, have organisation and leadership skills, and can handle a lot of various responsibilities.

## Goals for next year

I am passionate about expanding ways for CompSoc members to interract with the industry. So I will push to increase LeedsHack capacity again. Continue society's work with industry connections to both get more sponsors for society and LeedsHack, as well as continue the Industry Talk series.
I will organize a Capture the Flag event, and am keen on exploring other ways to give members some practice with coding and problem solving.

I will also be continuing CompSoc's commitment to building community among students. Not just with academic events, but also more casual ways to meet new people: revision sessions, pub socials, fridge-to-fridges, a pub quiz.

And finally, I will continue CompSoc's close collaboration with the School of Computing. Helping to facilitate a bigger (and better) LeedsHack, and the return of our Charity Summer Ball.
