Hi everyone, I’m Kirsten, a first-year Computer Science student, and I’m running to be your next Treasurer. Managing the society’s finances is more than just managing a spreadsheet. It requires strategic outreach, a knowledge of LUU processes, and the leadership to support our ambitious committee.

I’m not just bringing ideas to the table, I’m bringing the exact experiences needed to execute them. As an Activities Coordinator for the AI Society, I learned the logistical realities of running university events. I know what our events cost, where we can maximise our budget, and how reliable funding is crucial for pulling off events like LeedsHack.

To make sure our events are a success, we need strong external backing. During my time as a Public Relations Officer for the Google Developer Students Club, I gained direct experience pitching to external partners and maintaining relationships with them. I will use these skills to actively secure sponsorships, ensuring we have the capital to elevate our events while keeping ticket prices low!

My core goals for this year:
Subsidised Society Merch: Everyone loves good merch, it brings people together, but it shouldn’t cost a fortune. I will use my outreach experience to secure a sponsor to subsidise production costs, making high-quality, affordable (and fashionable!) hoodies for all members.
Securing the Bag for LeedsHack: Leveraging my experience to lock in top-tier tech sponsors for our flagship hackathon.
Strategic Event Funding: Working directly with the social secretaries to ensure funds are allocated efficiently, without cutting corners on the quality of your experience!
Mastering LUU Funding: Submitting highly detailed grant applications to the Activities Executive to maximise our union funding.
Complete Transparency: Producing crystal-clear termly and yearly reports for the AGM and maintaining LUU Cash Office accounts.

Hey, I’m Lucy! I’m currently on a year in industry and will be going into final year.

During my placement I’ve been working in Tax, where I’ve developed strong financial skills. Working directly with a broad range of clients has also helped me build confidence in communication and relationship-building, which will be really useful when securing and maintaining sponsorships for the society. I’ve also developed good organisational skills through managing deadlines and responsibilities in the corporate world.

I would love to build on everything the current committee has achieved by supporting both social and academic events. It’s really important to me to maintain the welcoming atmosphere of the society and make sure everyone has a great experience!
