Hi, my name is Mimi and I study International Relations here at Leeds. I would absolutely love to be your Welfare Officer next year as I believe I have the skills and empathy to appropriately support and uplift survivors and have a passion for mental health and well-being advocacy.

Through my experience of volunteering for mental health charities, and hearing personal testimonies, I believe that for a society that deals with such a serious issue, welfare is of the utmost importance.

I hope to be able to effectively support all members (and non-members) of the society, through resources and signposting, and push the mission of the society forward. I aim to do this by cultivating a safe and caring environment and keeping well informed on vital information and practices to support survivors and those who wish to learn more.

This can include finding ways to make Sip and Socials more accessible and even more connected to the purpose of the society and collecting and actively responding to feedback.

As an IR student, I often connect with sexual violence in the context of war, an issue that has become extremely urgent to me, and I hope that this role will better prepare me to advocate for and protect people in situations such as those.

I’m running for Welfare Officer because I believe deeply in SASHA’s mission to create safe, inclusive, and survivor-centred spaces. As a Psychology student and mental health advocate, I bring both academic knowledge and emotional insight to this role—understanding how trauma, stigma, and healing intersect, and why compassionate support matters so much.

I want to be a steady, calm presence within the society—someone people feel safe turning to, whether they need a listening ear, direction to support services, or quiet, confidential care. I’m committed to handling welfare concerns with sensitivity, urgency, and respect, while actively working to make all SASHA spaces as accessible and inclusive as possible.

This role is not just about being approachable—it’s about showing up consistently, holding space, and helping create a culture where no one is left behind. I would be honoured to support our community with warmth, courage, and clarity.
