As I’m sure you’re aware, diversity is something I’m really passionate about, and I’m particularly passionate about sharing it, so keen to do that with frisbee. Leeds Uni Frisbee being a diverse, inclusive, and accepting place is really important, not just for people already here but people who might join, because it’s definitely something I was mindful of when picking a sport to play at uni. Working in Diversity & Inclusion, I am mindful of situations that can make people feel left out and can acknowledge and change it; and from working in education I’m very familiar with general safeguarding and welfare guidance. As I’m caring, thoughtful, and hardworking, I’m the kind of person people will want to share any issues with.
I want to keep doing weekly facebook posts, as we've cultivated a really nice space on the page, and I’ve found it really nice to know there's an easy point of contact and someone looking out when things go wrong. To these posts I’d also introduce weekly wellbeing tasks, simple fun things like “read something because you want to not because you have to”, so people have something easy and finite to do, which really helps in rough weeks, and it would make self care something we all together do as a club, because taking care of yourself can often feel lonely.
For charity, we’d decide on a charity together as a club, preferably sport or even frisbee based, as that is something we are all passionate about, and raise money for them throughout the year; for example, charging £1 more for socials occasionally, could make a real difference and maybe even encourage more people to socials if they knew it was a good cause.
