For the coaching aspect of this role, I have lots of experience in sports coaching and have a Level 1 coaching qualification. While this is in netball, a lot of the skills it teaches are around communication and explanation that are both really transferable to frisbee.
On the frisbee side of things, I’ve already shown good leadership and coaching, stepping up to leadership roles at LIT and notably Trifrizard, where our team had people who had barely played at all; they thanked me for stepping up to lead and for the help I’d given them, and they were genuinely better players at the end of the tournament than the start.
I’d also make an effort to help beginners off of the pitch, working with welfare to help with pastoral issues, and making a point to explain things like spirit and the routine of tournament weekends, that to us feel completely normal, but can leave people feeling really lost in their first few months.
Beginners are so incredibly important to keep this club going and they need someone committed to them, both in terms of training and developing skills, and in navigating the society as a whole. Over the last year, with the way I’ve thrown myself in, the sheer number of training and tournaments, and even socials I’ve been to, I’ve shown I’ve got that commitment to this club and the people in it.

Hi, I am Ricketts and have loved being part of frisbee this year. I really valued the beginner sessions and enjoyed becoming friends with the other beginners. If I was to become a dev captain I would focus on providing enjoyment for those new to frisbee, trying to maintain their commitment to the club as well as pushing those who clearly want to improve.
