Hi everyone, I’m Sophie and I would love to be the next Merch Rep, carrying on the amazing job Claudia has done!! I’m currently studying on my year abroad in France but I’m coming back for my final year in Accounting and Finance. As much fun as I’ve been having, I am so excited to come back to Leeds and I’ve been having serious fomo this year.

I joined Modern in my second year and whilst I regret not joining sooner, I have had the best time with the society so far and made some amazing friends and some of my favourite memories!! Being part of Modern, I’ve taken Jazz and Tap classes and will definitely be continuing this.

I think I would be a great choice because my degree has allowed me to continuously work with budgets and costs and I believe I would be able to stay on budget with our merch. I would ensure I can keep costs as low as possible so that everyone has the opportunity to wear it and represent our amazing society! I am very organised and will always stay on top of my tasks. Whilst my year abroad has been so fun, however with visas and everything it has meant I’ve had to stay really organised and I believe this will help me to be successful in this role. I believe I have the communication skills necessary to work successfully with the other committee members, especially after an insane amount of group work in France, which I feel is so important in this role. I would make sure to effectively communicate with all society members, making everyone aware of merch drops with plenty of time so you all stay updated! I would love to be your next Merch Rep because I basically live in my Modern merch at this point, and feel like I'm spreading Modern Dance propaganda around my French uni (I’ve had to explain what tap is an insane amount of times).

I am loving the new merch that Claudia has created for us, and would love to continue her amazing work, and I would love for everyone to feel as confident in their merch as I know I do! I would love to continue surveys to see what everyone would like to see, as it's so important to me that I am providing what you all want! I am more than happy to welcome new ideas from you. I am also a sustainability queen and would ensure that we are being as sustainable as possible in our merch decisions. If elected, I would continue to provide multiple opportunities to buy merch throughout the year and align this with student loan payments, which I know would be so helpful to many of us, including myself! As well as this, I aim to keep items as affordable as possible!

One thing I would love to introduce is a new branded water bottle. I know I personally love a good reusable water bottle and the chance to show off Modern quite literally everywhere I go! I feel like this is both practical (stay hydrated!!) but also provides a fun sustainable option, helping reduce plastic waste in our everyday activities!

Another area I’d love to explore is providing the option of charity merch. I would love to work with the welfare rep to provide a fundraising opportunity where we can create special merch, with proceeds being donated to a given charity. For example, pink tops which raise money for breast cancer awareness. I would gauge people’s interest in this of course but I feel this would be a fun new way to support charitable activities.

I have loved being a member of Modern Dance and am so excited to be back dancing with you all! I will always be a friendly face to any members and I am always around for a chat or a coffee. Regardless of election outcomes, I am so excited to be back and hopefully I will learn not to take it too far in revs (doubtful). My final goal is to promise not to make my year abroad my personality (hopefully).
