About Me
Hi Everyone! For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Caitlin. I’m in my first year at Leeds studying International Relations. I joined Modern Dance in my first semester and I’m currently in Advanced Tap but hoping to branch out more next year into other styles, competitions and as your Secretary!
Why do I want to be Secretary?
Straight from the get-go, Modern Dance became such a special part of my uni experience and I’ve thrown myself into opportunities like the Varsity performance, freshers dance and attended as many socials as I could.
Because being part of Modern has been a huge part of my year, this has driven me to get more involved in the society, which I hope to do by becoming your secretary for 2024/2025.
I also believe I have the organisation, dependability and communication skills to be suited for this job.
Why Vote for me?
I’m a huge fan of making lists and ensuring everything is organised and this will help our society run smoothly.
I have experience working in a team and organising and coordinating large groups of people, as I was Communication Prefect in Sixth Form. I feel confident that I can transfer these skills to the role of secretary for Modern.
I believe I would be an asset to committee as I manage time well, listen well and will try to find compromises where needed.
Goals/ Propositions:
1. Organisation:
I will…
- Keep clear records of our society's members, their classes and contact information so that no member is missed when communicating information.
- Keep an organised record of discussions and outcomes of committee meetings.
- Ensure notes are concise such that they can be easily communicated to the rest of society.
2. Communication and Inclusivity:
I will…
- Act as a bridge connecting committee, teachers and the wider society.
- Continue the high standard of weekly newsletters/ emails informing the whole society about socials, show and comp information, class updates and everything in between to ensure that everyone knows what is going on in our society.
- Publicise opportunities (eg. Varsity) to the wider society to ensure inclusivity of all members.
- Promote the inclusivity of our society to new and prospective members at freshers events and on social media.
- Create a channel on social media (or email) for all society members to make suggestions of what they wish to see in our society, which I will raise for discussion at committee meetings to ensure that all members' voices are heard.
3. Promotion of Our Society:
I will…
- Liaise with our show rep, comp reps and social secretaries to consistently advertise Modern events and opportunities.
- Liaise with other societies to encourage more promotion of each others events (so advertisement of our society will reach a wider audience).
- Promote our events through all social media channels, including tik tok.
- More active use of our You Tube page to showcase our wonderful dances. Liaise with Show Rep and Comp Reps to ensure we have recordings of performances to post.
- Make sure our Instagram remains as cute and informative (and pink) as this year :)
4. Helpful and Supportive:
I will…
- Be approachable, supportive and a familiar face to ask questions of, whilst making sure I have the knowledge to answer such queries.
- Answer email and social media enquiries in a professional but friendly manner.
- Work with our welfare rep to ensure all dancers are part of a collective community where they feel comfortable to ask questions and raise concerns.
- Be as kind and welcoming to everyone, as everyone was to me, especially encouraging new people who may have never danced and may be really nervous to join.
- Actively help and support other committee members where required as I feel this is important to create an effective team
Thank you for reading my manifesto! I am excited to have this opportunity to run for committee and, if you like my proposals, please…

Hi everyone! My name is Neve and I would LOVE to be your secretary for next year and carry on what an amazing job Katie has done this year. Currently, I am in Belgium having a great time on my year abroad but I am still super looking forward to coming back to Leeds in September (I am oddly missing Hyde Park). I joined Modern in my second year of university but wish I had joined in my first year since I had the best time last year. Last year I took jazz and tap and will continue to do them next year. Despite not being on the committee before I believe to have a key set of transferable skills that are going to be crucial as a secretary.
After applying for a complex visa with strict timelines and specifications it has really enhanced my organisational skills. I can juggle multiple tasks and keep on top of my work all while making sure to manage my time and ensure everything is completed in due course, all important skills for being a secretary. This means that I will be able to keep on top of everything that is presented to me especially around the start of the semester when there is a lot to sort. During my time abroad I have mainly been assessed through group work which has improved my communication and collaboration skills which will be key during committee meetings and then communicating what has been discussed with the whole society.
I want to make sure that everyone knows what is going on each week within the society whether that’s through the weekly emails or Instagram posts, especially around competition and show time to allow everyone to be less stressed, more organised and on their A-game! But also throughout the semester to help keep social attendance high and make sure people take any opportunities that are there for them. Therefore I shall ensure to make clear notes and summaries from committee meetings to ensure both me and everyone else is aware of what is going on. I want to be involved in helping with class allocations with other committee members to allow us to get as many people into their desired classes which should help the society grow. I consider myself to be a confident person, therefore will be encouraging lots of people to come and join the society which will be key during the first few weeks with welcoming all of the new freshers but also new members from second and third years like me who was more hesitant to join. I will also always be a friendly face for people to come to if needed. Finally, I have so much love for this society and want it to carry on doing so well, therefore want to promote it as much as possible through Instagram and Tik Tok which will be key for the start of the semester when freshers will be wanting to join.
Lots of dance love, Neve xoxo

Hey, I’m Eve and I am hoping to be your secretary for next year!
This is my first year in Modern and I am literally in LOVE. When I say that Modern has made my uni experience, I am not exaggerating. I met some of the best girls and made some of the best memories and I can’t wait to continue that on for another year, hopefully as one of your committee members.
As someone who struggles with lots of anxious feelings and worries, particularly around events or plans, Katie’s brilliance as secretary has been one of the most important factors into why I always recommend Modern to anyone and everyone. I hope to be able to step into her shoes and try to do what she did for me for someone else, all whilst putting my own spin on it.
Therefore, I promise as your secretary to ensure weekly emails are sent out, detailing all the important information particularly about socials to encourage freshers to join us, as well as ensuring a weekly absence form for all classes. Linking to this, I would ensure that any absences recorded are communicated to Vicky and Erica so they can work around this, especially around show seasons. This would hopefully mean that Vicky and Erica can spend less time trying to change spaces from week-to-week and hopefully make their lives a lot easier.
As secretary, I will make sure that I liase with all committee members to make sure I can communicate any info they need me to as well as making sure I am up to date when it comes to promoting socials, fundraisers, shows and comps. I want to ensure that fundraising and the charity chosen by our Welfare Rep are always at the forefront of everyone’s minds so that we can make the biggest impact on our community. To do this I would work with the Welfare Rep to make sure any information they need members to know is promoted on both Facebook and Instagram, as well as actively taking the time to encourage members to donate or get involved with fundraising activities.
Furthermore, I want to work with the whole committee to make our social media presence even bigger than it is now. WE NEED TO BE TIK TOK FAMOUS!! Therefore, I hope to work on building our Instagram and Tik Tok profile, especially at the start of the academic year to really encourage new members. We are the BEST society on campus, filled with the loveliest people and I want that to be known and shown off. I aim to do this by sharing more snippets of classes, socials and comp season, as well as aiming to post more of our lovely members to show everyone our friendly faces and put that personal touch on our social media platforms.
Overall, all I can do is assure you that I am an extremely organised person (as I mentioned my bookcase is organised alphabetically and my notion has every aspect of my life consolidated as a list) and that as a bit of a mother hen, I will always be there to help anyone whether thats with a personal query, or whether you simply need me to check your bra straps aren’t hanging out of your costume before you step on that stage!
Please vote for me and I promise I will put my all into being YOUR secretary!!!! xxxxx

Hey guys, I’m Natasha and I would love to be given the opportunity to be your new secretary. I am currently in my second year studying human physiology. I have been a part of Modern for 2 years now and have had the best time. I have got to meet some of the most amazing people through modern and I can’t wait to meet even more of you. I love attending socials and seeing everyone’s creativity each week. My biggest regret from the past two years is not joining a competition team (I was on holiday for auditions whoops), which I can’t wait to do next year. There is lots to live up to as this year’s committee have smashed it raising lots of money for charities, completing two of our own shows, lots of socials and lots of awards at comps. I am excited to have the opportunity to continue to develop and maintain modern at this standard. For me, Modern has been a welcoming environment that has allowed me to become more confident in dance and learn new skills every week.
I am a bit of an organisational freak (you don’t want to look in my diary) which will help me in the role of secretary. It allows me to balance the demands of my degree as well as my extra-curricular activities, like training for a half marathon (ahhhhh!) and of course dance. This will help me to ensure that all the information needed is within the weekly emails. During my time as a bar supervisor, I have developed team working skills, I believe this is an integral component of being secretary. Working with the other members of the committee is essential to ensure that the society runs smoothly. When recently helping at Ballet’s show I got an appreciation for how much goes into running a show as well as a society, it allowed me to understand the importance of each committee member supporting one another and working as a team.
My main aims as your secretary are to ensure that I regularly post on Instagram and the Facebook page to ensure that information is easily accessible. Also, I will continue to post on the Modern dance TikTok, we’ve got to keep those views going. I will communicate effectively with the rest of the committee to ensure that the weekly emails are relevant and up to date, assisting them in any issues they may be facing. It is important within my role to support the vice president and president in class allocations at the start of the year. As well as communicating with the class reps to see if we can get anyone on the waiting list into their desired class. After committee meetings, I will write up a concise conclusion of the important points of the meeting. I would create a committee calendar to post all important dates for easy access and to hopefully help reduce the stress of keeping on top of all the ongoing. I would also like to post a brief calendar on the Facebook and Instagram to allow all dancers to know what is coming up in the upcoming semester.
Being a part of the Modern dance society has been an amazing outlet for me to get away from the stress of Uni, I honestly don’t know where I’d be without it. Over the last two years, I have enjoyed watching all the amazing dancers within the society and in the other dance societies. I am looking forward to spending my last year with Modern dance, making the most of the community and friendships it provides.
Dance love,
Natasha xx

I’m Scarlett, and I have been a fresher at Modern this year, taking part in contemporary classes and being a member of the competition teams. I am studying Nutrition at University, and I am running to be Modern’s secretary in the 2024/2025 year.
I would love to run for this role, as I have loved every second of Modern so far from the socials to the competitions to my weekly classes. I have found some of my best friends in the society, and next year, I would love to be part of the committee in order to support others to do the same as well as branching out even further and making more friends myself. I have tried to take every opportunity Modern has offered me this year (from the secret social to the competition season to the varsity & fresher dances, I’ve really tried to do it all!). By having such involvement in so many aspects of the society, I feel I am suited to take on a more executive role.
I am a very organised person. I would ensure that weekly emails are sent out at the same time every week with all the information clearly laid out, making sure that all members of the society are kept up to date. I would respond to email queries and other messages promptly, and I would put a lot of effort and time into ensuring the Modern socials are updated (and look good!). I would also offer my assistance to any committee member that needs help or support, as well as making sure committee meetings are productive and enjoyable for all.
I have a few new ideas for next year that make me stand out as your secretary. Firstly, if I were elected as secretary, I would want to make a yearbook/scrapbook/memories book or video that could be sent to Modern members at the end of the year. This would consist of social photos, class-style yearbook photos, events, competitions and other similar things. It would be such a nice way to look back on all the great things we had done and would be a nice memory. Secondly, I would like to use our social media accounts more with content from dance classes, socials and special events being uploaded consistently. I think this would promote Modern as a society in general, and I think it would also be useful to new freshers or members who can look at the accounts before deciding whether this is a society they’d like to join. Thirdly, I loved what Annie and Ellen did with the COMP-liments during competition season, and I would love to see that be carried on throughout the year with all members. Specifically, positive messages about individuals (from things people have done at socials or related to dance classes) could be posted on Instagram at the same time as ‘Dancer of the Week’ posts. Lastly, I would also like to send a feedback form to all members halfway through the year, so that everyone can comment on the running of the society as a whole.
I also have ideas for other members of the committee to make Modern even more fun next year, including doing a Modern sleepover and having a sober social for competition teams at the beginning of the year to make us even closer by the end of the season!
Overall, I would love love love to be Moderns secretary next year, as I am very organised and I know I would do all tasks given to me on time. I would offer my support to every single person, and I have tons of new ideas to make this amazing society even better!
