Hi LSTV! My name is Ella and I would love to be your Head of Filmmaking for 2025/26 :)

My plans for next year are as follows!

🎭 Connecting with theatre societies to recruit passionate actors onto set. It’s always a struggle to find people to act in our films and it can really drag a film down when the cast isn’t the right fit for the role. In building a close relationship with the theatre societies in Leeds I hope to bring in some great talent to help out!

🎬 Empowering members to lead their projects to increase the amount of films made in LSTV! Films often take months of planning so leaving this to one person means it’s unlikely that we will finish more than one film per semester. Allowing members to take the first steps in planning their film independently (eg, script, storyboarding, character profiles, locations needed), this means as many people as possible can create the films they want to make and get the ball rolling!

🎥 Expanding filmmaking further into other forms like documentaries and music videos. This is the perfect time to get creative so I would love to try some other genres of filmmaking, especially to give members the opportunity to try something new.

🗓️ I will begin planning numerous projects over the summer so that we can get into filming as soon as possible next academic year.

💻 Opportunity for members to access all footage from filming, even if they’re not the editor on that project. Editing can completely change a film and by allowing members to take this footage and experiment I think there could be some pretty interesting outcomes! (And it gives members the opportunity to practice editing without the pressure of producing the official final cut).

As a film studies student, I'm not given the opportunity to be hands on with the camera. With LSTV this year it’s been a privilege to make content across the society as I love nothing more than being creative! Film is something I’m super passionate about (I’m always either at the cinema or at home scrolling through Letterboxd), so to be at the forefront of LSTV filmmaking is a role I will not take for granted!
