I am applying for the role of treasurer as I want to ensure that this club continues to fund and support the varied range of activities here at Leeds. I personally have enjoyed the variety of activities organised these past few years, and I hope to make sure that the future 12 months are full of events that cater to as many people as possible. My qualifications for this position are as follows.
I have served with the group before in my second year and I’m also a part of the committee for the Leeds of the Ring Rally which we plan to host in November. With my role as On-site logistics officer, I have gained experience in assessing the feasibility and costs associated with the running of such a large-scale event. The experience that I have gained so far will be transferrable into my role as the treasurer for LUUSAG. Also, I have served with my own scout group (1st Osterley) since I was a beaver and have achieved up to the platinum scout award. So, I have a lot of experience with scouting and scout related activities. With this same group, I worked as a young leader to run evenings for beavers. Here, I took part in financial talks regarding what we can reasonably afford for scout camps and activities for regular meetings. I therefore have experience with scout financial matters already and am ready to transfer over what I know to the society.
Furthermore, I have served on a previous year’s committee, giving me firsthand experience in planning, and organising social events, which included costings and applications for grants. For the 3 years that I have been a student of Leeds, I have been in attendance for most socials and outings of the society. I am well known among its attendees as someone who is reliable and trustworthy. Despite the taxing nature of my degree, I have the time and energy to devote to the society and its committee to make sure that it is run as smoothly as possible. Finally, I got an A* in A-level maths and am doing well studying a STEM degree, both give me useful knowledge for the role as treasurer.
If I was elected to this role, I promise that I will take good care of the finances of the society and build upon the work of the previous administration to ensure that everything runs smoothly. With the ongoing cost of living crisis, it should be important that members can have opportunities to go out and have fun. I therefore plan to make it easier through reduced cost social activities and making use of university grants to help as many students attend meetings. I will also ensure that the cost of membership is reasonable and affordable, so as not to deter those who would otherwise wish to join.
