Social Secretary Manifesto I would like to be Social Secretary next year because I believe that it is important to create an environment for nurses to come together outside of the stressful aspects within our course. I hope to help create memories that will last a lifetime that will then become the stories, we tell friends and family about. I would love to be able to bring people together throughout all three years and the different nursing branches, so that we are able to offer support for one another, to be able to talk and share any worries, concerns or even discuss what we are enjoying most, what aspects of the course or society we are most excited for and create friendships that we will have forever. As social secretary I would want to offer a variety of social events from nights out and the Otley Run to chilled nights at the pub, cinema, or bowling. Next year I also have a house in Hyde Park so this would be perfect location for any house parties. Next year I would also love to bring our society together with others to put on a range of different events to provide others with the opportunity of widening their friendship group and perhaps finding other societies that they might be interested in. Joint socials nights with other societies are so much fun and a great way to get to know new people. I would also love to get inspiration from others on the course, allowing them to have their say in which events they would like to see from the society, what they have enjoyed so far and what they would like to see more of. This could be achieved through messages on a group chat or through polls and question boxes on Instagram by asking people what they would like to see or giving them a variety of options for them to choose from. At the end of the day this is their society and their university experience I would love to be a part in helping them make some amazing memories. As social secretary I would love to work as part of the wider team in order to create the best society that we can for next years freshers and also new and old members of the society. It would be amazing to gain an insight into what has and hasn’t worked out before from other committee members and find out where they think the social aspect of the society can be improved and any new ideas that they think we should try. Ultimately, I want to be a proactive member of the nursing society committee and my main focus will be to make next year the best that it can be and make it enjoyable for every single one of our members. An idea that I have already had and discussed with others whilst on social events is the idea of creating ‘nursing families’ this could be where we form groups of two third years, two second years and two freshers and these people become a support network for each other where individuals can discuss any issues that they might be having or even just meet up with each other for a catch-up every once in a while. I have personally had so much fun on the social events this year and made memories that I will never forget. Therefore, I want to create this for our members next year and provide them with some of the best experiences that the University of Leeds has to offer.

Hey! My name is Hannah Walker and I’m a second year Adult Nurse! I’ve applied for sec and social sec- here’s a bit about me ;) I am quite outgoing, and I have such a range of interests, I absolutely love fitness and getting involved with pretty much anything and everything to do with sport, I play the ukulele, love a good night out (of course), have an obsession with plants, and all in all, I am always up for a good chat! I believe that a role like this would be perfect for me! I am always keen to advocate for people, to make sure everybody is heard and happy, and this is an amazing opportunity to show all you lovely people this too :) My main aims are: To keep the society running! To introduce charity events To push for a sports team To advocate for mental health To make first year students feel welcome To make the Nursing society a safe space for everybody :)
