WILS was the first society I joined, and it has been a highlight of my university experience ever since. It has given me incredible opportunities and memories, and as I enter my final year, I would love to give back to this wonderful society by being your next secretary.
What I propose…
* Support the delivery of more career growth opportunities e.g. informal networking events, employability workshops, career talks
* Support the organisation of fun and welcoming social activities throughout the year
* Seek out new opportunities to promote the lovely WILS community
* Help expand our network of professionals in a range of fields e.g. Marketing, STEM, Finance
* Gather and implement feedback from members to give you the best WILS experience

Hi everyone. My name is Lakshmi, and I’m a second-year law student. Having experienced WILS events over the past year, I have been inspired by the society’s ethos, and would love to contribute to the society's success as secretary!

Why me?
As a Sub-committee member for the Empower Conference 2026, I have gained an "insider’s view" of how this society operates and what it needs to flourish. I am now eager to step up as your Secretary to ensure our administration is as powerful and professional as the women we represent.
As a member of various other societies at university, including Lawyers without Borders and 180 degrees consulting, I have the consistency, drive, and organisational skills to support a thriving team.
My professional experience as a compliance assistant has trained me in regulatory checks and file reviews - skills I can use to keep the society’s constitution and records flawless.

My goals as secretary:
Leveraging my experience in External Relations, I will work closely with the President and VP to broaden our network. I aim to actively scout for new opportunities, ensuring our activities are reported to the committee with a focus on future growth.
I will create a structured monthly update summarising key committee decisions and upcoming administrative deadlines, so no opportunity is missed by the membership.
Finally, having lived in Mauritius and now the UK, I thrive in diverse environments and love connecting with people from all walks of life. I want to ensure our society and outreach materials are as accessible as possible to our diverse international student body.

I’ve loved being behind the scenes for Empower 2026, and I’d be honoured to keep that momentum going as your Secretary.

Candidate Statement:

I have been an active member of LUUWILS throughout my university experience, starting from my first year. Through this society, I met many inspiring women who have became both my friends and mentors. Being part of the society provided me with strong sense of community and career guidance. Now being in my final year, I would like to be more involved and contribute towards building another great year for LUUWILS.

As secretary, I aim to support the smooth running of the society by maintaining clear and effective communication, organising meetings efficiently, and ensuring that all administrative tasks are handled quickly. As I have relevant secretary experience , I am familiar with Uni of Leeds's administrative processes such booking venue, filling out speaker forms and so on. Moreover, as a former duty manager at a restaurant, I have a suitable track record of working as a team, keeping record and monitoring KPIs.

I am highly organised, reliable, and attentive to detail and I believe these skills would enable me to contribute effectively to the committee. Ultimately, I am committed to helping LUUWILS continue to thrive as a supportive and empowering community for all its members.

Hello everyone! My name is Sajida and I am running to be your next WILs Secretary!

I am currently a first year LLB Law student, and I’ve really enjoyed being part of WILs this year, particularly through the Mentoring Scheme. Being part of such a supportive and inspiring community has been a really valuable part of my university experience, and I would love the opportunity to contribute further as Secretary :)

Why should you vote for me?
1. I’m organised and reliable
I genuinely enjoy planning and keeping things structured, and I take pride in being someone others can depend on. Through balancing academics, societies, and other commitments, I have developed strong time management skills which I would bring to this role. I would ensure meetings, records, and communication are always clear and well-organised so the society can run smoothly.

2. I’m supportive and approachable
I value creating a positive and inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome. Being part of WILs this year has shown me how important that sense of community is, and I would love to help maintain and strengthen it. I enjoy working with others and would always be happy to support both committee members and society members wherever I can.

3. I’m committed and proactive
As someone actively involved across multiple societies, I am used to being consistent, organised, and engaged. Founding and leading my school’s Law Society, as well as organising a charity fundraiser, has helped me develop strong organisational and leadership skills. I would bring that same level of dedication and time-management to this role and ensure everything behind the scenes runs effectively.

My goals for next year:
1. Broadening opportunities through new partnerships and alumni connections
I would support building partnerships with a wider range of organisations across different industries, while also helping develop alumni connections so members can benefit from their experience and guidance.

2. Practical employability support
I would work with the committee to help deliver workshops focused on real, useful skills such as CV writing, LinkedIn, and navigating applications, helping members feel more confident in their career development.

3. Clearer and more consistent communication
I would introduce more structured updates, such as shared meeting summaries or a WILs calendar, so committee members stay aligned and all members are consistently informed about opportunities and events.
