I think if I’ve shown anything at rugby this past year, it is that I’m here for the social side. I’ve enjoyed what rugby I’ve played (which let’s face it my one match and broken nose has not been the best show of it), but more than that I’ve enjoyed participating in as many social activities I can. You may not be able to rely on me to participate in contact training but without fail I’m always ready to participate in a social, which is why I’d love to be social sec.

I’m hearing social sec is not just a role for fun but one that takes thorough planning. I may not come across as the most organised person out there, but don’t be fooled, I work in data analysis. My literal job is spreadsheets. Those socials will be planned with the detail and colour coding necessary for such a task.

I know planning tour is a hefty job, but planning a holiday is a task I know well. Who better to put your trust in for a trip than the person who is on holiday at any given opportunity anyway. It’s not just travel I have a love for but budget travel. I know for many the cost of tour is of great concern but if there is anything I can do its track down a good price to go away for. I would be committed to getting the best price to ensure as many people as possible can go.

You need members recruited; I’ve already spent my year convincing people to join the club. Ask the current social secs I’m constantly pestering them to request that my friends get to try out socials. This semester alone I have convinced 4 people to become members of the club and this energy will continue for recruitment next year.

My near perfect social attendance I believe goes far to demonstrate my commitment. At said socials I’ve never been one to shy away from games and challenges; even willingly drinking cups of spit a couple times. I’ve taken whatever has been thrown at me, titles of ‘cocky fresher’ and ‘most annoying’ and while these could possibly, maybe, potentially be valid I think it’s time the tables turn. It’s also nice to know the one telling you to tasks would be willing to it themselves.

More than anything I want socials to be accessible to as many people as possible. While for many of you it is concussions that have forced you to be sober at social for me it was multiple bouts of tonsilitis that caused me to attend sober. From that time, I have learnt how important it is to make socials a fun place for all regardless of whether you choose to drink or not and would therefore make steps, like changing fines and general games to non-drinking related challenges to accommodate – but do not fret there would never be a lack of opportunities to drink.

I know that lives are busy so I would also be committed to getting social info out asap to keep those costume costs low and allow for time to prepare, which best believe I have needed.

As those with ADHD will understand the biggest struggle, I’ve had at socials this year is staying sat down so for wellbeing purposes please let me stay stood and run the socials instead. That said I would like to see more opportunities for those who wish to have active interaction in socials while also ensuring there is always the chance for a break if people feel overwhelmed or even just feel like it.

Communication is clearly important for this role, and I would be committed to ensuring I have effective communication with the other social secs, welfare secs, committee and the wider club. I like to think if you can have a laugh with me take the piss out of me an even cruelly suggest for weeks that I may be tour bitch that in general most of you would feel comfortable raising concerns with me and giving your suggestions.

From ensuring the money is raised so that Abby is forced to get my name tattooed on her, to hand painting and designing Christmas cards for the devs coaches (even writing Rachels in her mother tongue to ensure she can understand) I will go to great lengths for personal entertainment purposes and this energy will extend to socials. I want socials to be a place of fun and laughter. While I may find joy in yelling at people at times, I want to be an approachable figure and want to keep the energy of socials light-hearted with a focus on silly games.

I’m prepared for whatever socials throw at me. As a first responder raised by two police officers, I’m emergency ready. Give me the summer and my advanced diving licence will elevate itself to rescue diver, so even in the sea or Roger Stephens Pond you can feel safe with me as your social sec.

Many of you may have gathered by the numerous side hobbies I have taken on that my degree is not the most strenuous, so best believe I have the time to take on this job and I already struggle to keep my mouth shut at socials so we might as well just utilise that for the socials next year.

Hi, I’m Zoe and I’m going for the role of social sec.

I would love to be social sec because my first year at uni would not have been half as good if it wasn’t for rugby, especially the social side. I would love for the new freshers to have the same experience, as well as giving back to the club too.

I think I would be great for the role because I love a social, I am super organised, and I can shout really loud at freshers who need to behave. Also, I was a supervisor at a brunch café last year which has taught me good leadership skills and how to communicate with business suppliers. This will be perfect for making deals and forming connections with managers of pubs and clubs so we can have every feral mischief and post-training HPP trip that we desire. I’ve also ran events on my own, for example, a pub quiz for charity which involved planning the night from start to finish and dealing with lots of drunk people, preparing me perfectly for LUUWRUFC socials.

I know the admin, organisation, and constant chasing people to RSVP to socials is going to be a lot, but I will be able to handle it because I can manage my time, keep on top of things and I love a list. Even though the admin reaches an all-time high in preparation for tour, I can’t wait to organise it, not only so I can wear something half decent compared to this year, but also because I think it is a great time to bring the club together.

I am also dedicated to the club, as seen by my green hair stage, so I would love to be on committee with an active role in weekly events. As a committee member, I would input new ideas to make the club even better. For example, perhaps with the help of the welfare secretaries, I would like to make Saturday Park Runs a weekly event for LUUWRUFC. Although this won’t sound like the most amazing social to most people, we could walk it, run it together and even have coffee or brunch after. I would be happy to organise this with a nearby café if it becomes popular. This would be a great chance for those who want to take part in socials, but don’t want the drinking part, to still get to know everyone, as well as improve our fitness for matches.

Specifically for the role of social secretary, I have many ideas for new social themes and games, but I will also aim to increase integration between freshers and old girls from the beginning. Because our old girls won’t have their babies and grandbabies until a few months in, when families are allocated, I would like to introduce small groups of old girls and freshers to pre together before socials a few times at the start of the year. A big freshers pres is so fun (thanks Megan) so these would of course continue, but these groups would bring the shy freshers out of their shells more quickly and bring the club together as one.

Most of all, I am looking forward to getting new faces into LUUWRUFC, getting to know them, and making them as obsessed with it as we all are.
So, vote for me, not only because you owe me for voting me tour bitch, but because I will smash social sec and make sure we have another amazing year of LUUWRUFC socials.

Hi, I’m Rosie and I am going for the position of social sec for 24/25 (I’ve tried to keep this short and sweet as I know there is lots to read).
Joining LUUWRUFC has been one of the best decisions I’ve made yet, having an amazing group of people to play alongside with (as well as get smashed with) has definitely made my first year at university unforgettable, and I would love to be able to be a part of making this possible for the freshers joining in September.

Not only have I found friends in LUUWRUFC, but I’ve already formed great relationships with my besties Connor and Emillio from revs. This acts as the perfect start to maintaining the best £5 drink deal in Leeds and continuing our solid relationship with revs!

From the beginning of this role, I would put in 100% effort, acting as both a fun and approachable member of the committee. I already make sure I speak to as many club members as possible, therefore I would continue this next year, familiarising myself with all freshers. Building relationships from the very beginning is essential to ensure everyone feels supported and welcomed in the sport itself as well as socials.

I feel that I’m well suited to this position shown through my dedication to LUUWRUFC this past year, through inheriting a newfound love for face paint (thanks Swick xxx) to voluntarily getting egged in the centre of Leeds… your idea of the perfect role model for the freshers!

Despite the silliness I have shown, I would sure be capable of organising and managing a group of drunk rugby players, it’s just like my job at home working with children. Not only has this made me brilliant at dealing with questionable behaviours, but it has developed a sense of creativity and the ability to adapt and change plans when handling unexpected situations.

Although some people may see the admin of this position as a downside, I thrive in organisation, and something I’d like to introduce would be a monthly social calendar. This would involve liaising with all members of the committee regarding upcoming events for each month. With this, it would allow for everyone to know about everything rugby related a little more in advance, this would ensure we have high turnouts for socials, and it would especially be useful for the freshers joining who are unfamiliar with all the events throughout the year. NO SPOLIERS ON THEMES THOUGH!!!

In regard to social themes, my notes app is already filled with ideas for outfits and related games. I assure you that freshers will be painted every colour of the rainbow and this will continue all the way up until tour. Having travelled on a budget in my gap yah, I would find us the cheapest and most affordable getaway, with tonnes of fun planned, anyway… being ranked #49 on tour I’m going to need some payback next year xxx
