Media Secretary is in charge of most of the outward communication of the club. As media sec you will be running the clubs Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, and other social media streams of the clubs choosing!

Every week that we have matches, team sheets will need to be posted (as quickly as possible - efficiency on graphic design software is a must) as well as match results on Wednesdays and any other related posts. Before the season begins, in the lead up to varsity and any important events in between you will be required to create as much buzz around as possible on social media, through contacts and by creating promotional material, posters etc. If you’re creatively inclined this is the perfect job in committee for you!

Within this role you will work alongside sponsorship, creating promotional material that can be sent out to prospective sponsors for the club, ensuring the media section of our contracts are upheld, as well as promoting any activities outside of rugby (such as fund-raising events, pride etc.). Being able to work creatively with others and follow a brief is super helpful, as well as being able to stay cool, calm, and collected when captioning posts and creating material (especially on winning days). What you post is peoples first impression of the club!

Taking photos and videos at training and matches will really help you in this role (you need content, content, and more content to keep it fresh), especially at the start of the season when LUU will ask for promo videos of the club, freshers media material, and any other campaigns they may run. Maintaining a good relationship with the unions social accounts is key as they also help us with promotion, so tag them, and our main sponsors in E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G.

Having a camera is not compulsory, but super helpful! Having connections with the people in the student media societies is handy as well, we can get them to come to our matches and help with extra promotion especially with varsity and spread the word! Organising professional photographers to come to matches also falls within your role (photoshop skills come in real handy here).

To sum up, media sec is an extremely creative role with a lot of freedom for imagination. Planning skills are a must, but ultimately, it’s a great way to see a different side of the club and help expand our reach.
