The Club Captain is the head of the club. The individual co-ordinates all other committee roles and represents the Club at the university and beyond. This role is not to be taken lightly as you rarely have a day off, with constant communication with other members of the committee, coaches and uni staff. Much of the work you do as Club Captain goes on behind the scenes in order to ensure the Club runs smoothly, but it's really rewarding when things go well and come together.

The Club Captain leads all committee meetings and has the final say on many of the major decisions facing the Club (some of which can be difficult!) so, tact, confidence, being able to think clearly, and with the Club’s best interest at heart, is vital. As Club Captain, you are responsible for taking on people’s feedback and ensuring the Club, coaching infrastructure and committee run efficiently. The ideal candidate should be approachable and communicative in order to make and maintain good relationships with the sports and activities staff at uni as well as other clubs and societies, and all members of our club.

Anyone standing for Club Captain is advised to have had experience in a committee role or be very aware/involved in the day-to-day running of the Club. Being Club Captain is a learning experience - you’re constantly finding out how the union runs, and how best to interact with a wide-ranging group of people: members, coaches, supporters, other Clubs, the Union and local community. Sometimes you will have difficult conversations with a variety of people, so the Club Captain needs to ensure they have the Club’s best interest at heart. You must think of all aspects of the club when making a decision and think about how your choice in decision can affect all club members.

The role comes with lots of responsibility but is an exciting opportunity, giving you a real chance to develop the Club, implement change and develop many transferable skills that will help your employability in the big wide world! Being Club Captain is a serious commitment - you will have to put in a lot of time and constantly be on the ball with communication, dates and meetings etc. and at times it can be tricky and very stressful - but the rewards that come with it, make all the hard work worth it.

Please message me if you’ve got any more questions about the role.
