We have two teams in BUCS and so require two co-ordinators. These essentially involve the same responsibilities, however, obviously apply to their respective teams. As co-ordinator you must have an outstanding commitment to the team, making sure you are present and vocal at all training sessions and matches. You should be friendly and approachable to all new members of the club and have good relationships with all the existing members of the team. As Co-ordinator you must provide a good example and go above and beyond on enthusiasm and encouragement at training. Co-ordinators also needs to be organised and communicate well with the coaches. They will assist the head coach with planning training and picking the team every week.

You will need to have good direct contact with the coaching team regarding team selection and post the weekly team sheets, and ensuring BUCS admin is all correct and completed on time by coordinating with the club secretary to ensure coaches etc have been booked. You will have a lot of contact with the secretary regarding bus times for away games and will need to keep kit sec in the loop to make sure you have all the kit necessary on the day (this can include helping transport and organise the kit where necessary). All admin and organisation can also continue post-game day in communicating with the team regarding any injuries and passing this on when necessary, so everyone is in the loop. Essentially you will be the representative of the team and the first point of call but may not necessarily be playing for the team you coordinate each week; this is to aim to have more continuity between the teams and more integration within the club.

On match days coordinators may not be playing for the team they co-ordinate for but must still set a good example on the pitch as LUUWRUFC prides itself on a positive attitude on the pitch and never getting aggravated at each other or the other team. It’s good to anticipate games that may be rougher (cough cough Liverpool, cough cough Sunderland) and ensure the team is prepared for it to help them keep a cool head and retaliate in a way that won’t send them off the pitch #getsomeclass. As co-ordinator you lead by example, never pointing out individual flaws and making sure all advice is given in a constructive manner. Learning what individual members of the team respond best to is important. It’s your responsibility to rally the troops and make sure to keep it positive and learn from our mistakes. In terms of match days, be prepared to deal with complications and last-minute dropouts, and always be nice to the ref (even the stupid ones). We’re a small but powerful team with wheels to burn, so maximising our potential with fitness is important!
