"We’re Maria and Sam, and we’re standing to be the joint Rec captains for this year!

We’re both committed to making sure that Rec continues to be a warm and encouraging environment for rowers of all abilities. From those totally new to rowing in Beg Rec, to those more experienced rowers in Senior Rec. This is carrying on the wonderful work done by Amy, Laura, Zara, and Fergus this last year.

For Beg Rec:

We hope to foster a healthy environment by co-ordinating sessions with coaching volunteers and tailoring sessions to the needs of participants. Whether this be for ambitious new rowers with a view to break into racing, or those just wanting to keep active with like-minded rowers. We will do this by arranging a progress tracking system for those hoping to improve and break into racing. We will work closely with Dan and the incoming committee in monitoring this tracking. As we have both experienced being in Beg Rec, we believe this provides us with valuable insight into how the squad works and how we can make it an enjoyable experience for all involved.

For Senior Rec:

We will oversee the organising and smooth running of uncoached water sessions, to ensure that experienced rowers are given the independence to enjoy themselves and keep active around the busyness of university life. We are open to planning and structuring sessions based on input we receive from the squad. Both of us commit to being readily available and easily reachable throughout the academic year to hear all feedback, suggestions, or concerns you may have.

Aside from the overseeing water sessions, we will work with the incoming committee to organise exciting socials and events, both with and without alcohol. We plan to organise combined and separate Rec events to forge a community which is encouraging, supportive, and welcome to rowers of all backgrounds and abilities. In addition, we hope to plan more events between the racing and recreational teams to build better connections with individuals from different rowing backgrounds."
