What more can you ask for in a Fresher’s Rep? A whole lot more you say? Well, don’t you worry as I have boatloads to offer.

Firstly let me introduce myself: the name’s Jess, I’m 20, South African and one of the hygiene and therapy students. I am extremely fun and outgoing (my friends can all vouch for me and soon you will establish this for yourselves), overly friendly and about as intimidating as a butterfly which makes me super-duper approachable.

You have probably already seen me at almost all of the socials this year and if not… I better see you at the next ones! I believe I will be perfect for this position as I am quite extroverted and enjoy planning exciting outings, often themed, with my flatmates (surely doing the Otley run dressed as Jack Sparrow counts) as well as wholesome ones cause who doesn’t love a picnic.

We are all learning how difficult dental school can be and I know it can become over whelming at times. But when you start to feel academically challenged by this academically challenging degree, it's always good to have something to look forward to. And what better way to take a breather than joining everyone else who is in the exact same boat for a nice lil social (or a chaotic one). I myself thrive on meeting new people and would hope to encourage and include as many of you as possible to participate more in our vibrant society. I also promise to enthusiastically represent all of your opinions and creative ideas to the best of my capabilities making sure all your voices are heard.

Let me finish off by saying I basically already am the Fresher’s Rep, so vote me in and let’s make this official ;)

I have applied for this role as I would love to represent my fellow students on the Dental Surgery/Hygiene and Therapy courses. I enjoy meeting and working with my peers and want to provide a freshers experience that is enjoyable and accessible for everyone. I would like to see the introduction of more non-drinking socials as a large proportion of the year group are left out, including those who commute or have other priorities. As a commuting student who regularly comes onto campus, I can gauge the opinions of the majority of students and also encourage greater participation in social activities. I have already been communicating feedback, from my friends and colleagues, about Dentsoc events and all things dentistry, to my friends currently on the committee.
I look forward to working with them and the rest of the members to create a fantastic freshers experience.
