Hi everyone! My name is Freja, I'm a second year student studying Graphics and Communication Design. I'm so excited to have the opportunity to run for the position of the Events Officer in the LUU LGBT+ Society. As a queer person and active member of the society I am passionate about utilising my skill set to create events that unite the community, whilst celebrating our diverse identities, unique experiences and individual interests.

If elected I will focus on ensuring there are a range of inclusive events, from casual socials to larger celebrations in order to make sure everyone's needs are catered for. Continually, I recognise the value in having a variety of diverse events that allow for people to express their interests and celebrate their identities. Therefore, I would like to help in organising everything from casual meet ups targeted to a specific audiences, educational workshops and discussions, collaborations with other societies and events that celebrate LGBTQ+ milestones. Furthermore, I understand the importance of member engagement and plan to actively listen to community feedback through the societies social media platforms as well as working closely alongside other committee members so I can be as involved and receptive as possible to what events people want to see.

i'm a second year french & linguistics student and i've been coming along to society events for the best part of a year now and figured i ought to throw my hat in the ring to help the committee out!

i'm super excited if i get selected to help with events and make sure the soc is the most fun it can be for everyone involved

I was a welfare officer last year and I really enjoyed my role. I'd like to be on committee again this year to help organise more events for this society.

hi, i'm marta or mk (she/her) and i'm a first year student doing communications and media, originally hailing from milton keynes, hence the nickname and why i'm so excited to be in leeds! :) i am a big fan of all things media, but i especially love video games and music, mainly dad and indie rock.

i'd love to be on the committee, and especially considered for events manager, as i think there's nothing better than getting together with the people around you and spending time on something you all enjoy. whilst i've only been in leeds for a month, i've been to countless pub quizzes, club nights, coffee meets, film viewings and markets, and i can say for certain they are always better with other people, and i've actually found some good mates through lgbt soc already :)

back home, i was a part of my school's gsa, a club that was actually started by one of my friends in the year above, and i helped take over when she left the school, so i have always been really passionate about supporting other queers and creating safe spaces for them to get together. while obviously we couldn't exactly go to a pub or club (clearly it's illegal but also there are no good clubs in milton keynes (but main point is it's illegal)) we found ways to pass the time in watching films or musicals, playing card games and just chatting. i felt really fulfilled being a kind of role model for the younger students, and giving them have a safe space i never had at their age, which is why queer spaces are so important to me. outside of school, i also hosted a lot of events like your regular house parties but also film marathons (the saw series especially) and trips to the city :)

i would love to host more pub quizzes, as i really enjoyed the sapphic social one, but i am also really passionate about sober socials, as while i do drink, it is very expensive, and some of my favourite nights are sober ones (i do dicesoc every wednesday!). i would love to organise video game/tabletop nights and market trips, having been to both the zine fair and the indie halloween market, as well as music related events, perhaps alongside other societies.

i would also love to host more events for trans individuals, to provide a safe, accepting space in such a difficult time - a lot of my closest loved ones are trans and i know it's really tough for them at the moment, so i really want to create a space away from everything happening in the world, where people can just exist and have it all away from their minds for at least a few hours in a week, like some trans specific versions of the video game nights or film marathons.

generally i would just love to make other people aware of different events going on within leeds that they might be interested in, as i had found it quite difficult to find good lgbtq+ spaces to begin with!

occasionally my organisation skills can be lacking (adhd moment) but i love coming up with ideas for events, and i think i can work really well on a team, as it gives me the motivation to actually organise things and put lots of effort in.

I'm Alex (she/they), I've been part of this society since beginning my BA and am glad to still be part of it now as an MA student. Having been part of the society for so long, I have a good understanding of the community surrounding it and feel like I am able help reflect that in future events and give back to the society as a whole.
As an events officer I'd like to focus on event accessibility in terms of affordability, disability, and visibility. I'd also like to help continue a good balance of both sober and drinking social events taking into account member and committee feedback on previous events.
I have a fair amount of previous experience in running and helping to run societies. I was the president of Stitch and Bitch 2023-2024, helping to manage weekly events, run additional craft workshops, communicate with external companies for membership deals, and keep an open line of discussion about improvements between members and committee. I was also a Welfare Officer for LGBT+ soc 2023-2024 wherein I also helped to run weekly socials, and tried to ensure members felt their interests and wellbeing was prioritised and aligned with that of the society.
