Hey, I am Tia and I am running to be your show rep for next year.

I am a second-year Media and Communications student and an avid member of both the 💗 Modern 💗 and Ballet society. Dance has been a huge factor of my university experience, and I am so excited for what next year has in store.

Since my first year I have done everything I can to be as involved in shows as possible, performing in the Christmas, LUU and the main showcase in May. In my first year I was actively involved in the fresher’s dance, helping choreograph an inter and advanced section, so that as many people could have the opportunity to be involved. I also wanted to be involved with everyone else’s sections as I love doing extra dances (this then resulted in me having to sprint off stage and put tap shoes on in the wings in about 8 counts before coming back on). In this year's show I have also been involved in choreographing an extra dance, as well as participating in Varsity and Katie’s Fosse dance (because i just can’t get enough of modern 🤭).

I want to continue the legacy of shows being accessible and inclusive, as I have seen the work of Frankie and Amelie, with introducing BSL into our shows, over the last two years and the impact this has had. I also am passionate about show environment being a comfortable and enjoyable environment, open to all members of the society who want to take part. I have made some of my best friends from chatting and bonding with people in all the down time we have at shows, and I think this is such a special way to meet so many others, not just in your classes.

Being a media student, I like the idea of creating a trailer to advertise all our hard work in classes, and to promote our shows all over social media. These links can also come in helpful with creating a livestream of the shows, so that your friends and family who couldn't make it still have the opportunity to see your hard work from this year.

I am a very organised person, never going a day without making my to-do lists, so I guarantee I could stay on top of all the spreadsheets the show rep role comes with. I am also very friendly and approachable, always willing to listen and help so that we all feel comfortable at dance. I know show days can be long and stressful, but I want to be someone that makes sure we enjoy it at the same time. Similarly to the competitions, I want to create a little area in which classes can all get together before, or after their dances to take pictures and really feel connected to each other before going out on stage and creating special memories. I also like the idea of working with the welfare sec to have a quieter area for people to go to, with snacks, to keep everyone energised and activities to pass the time while waiting. It would be nice to make the lead up to shows more of an event, especially on social media, as we will all be too busy in rehearsals, to create a buzz of excitement.

Modern has been such a fun part of my uni journey so far and I can’t wait for this to continue next year.

Hi I’m Niamh and I would love to be your Show Rep next year.

I’m a first year Mathematics student, but I’ve been dancing since I was two and performing in shows since I was four. It’s genuinely my favourite thing ever. I joined Modern in my first week at Leeds and I’ve been nothing but grateful that I did.
For the past few years, I’ve worked as an assistant dance teacher and eventually became one of my company’s choreographers. This means I have real experience organising rehearsal schedules, helping dancers prepare for shows, supporting costuming and working with tech to produce high quality performances. I even love problem solving the small things that go wrong just before a show, I thrive on the adrenaline of it.
This year, I’ve thrown myself into everything Modern has to offer. I’ve performed in the Christmas and March shows and will be in the May show too. I also volunteered at Leeds Comp 2026, working behind the scenes with committee and volunteers when running for dancers, grabbing photos and even helping in the tech cave to ensure everything backstage went smoothly. I also helped behind the scenes at the LUU Ballet show, running for dancers and supporting the Show Rep wherever needed. Being trusted with those roles showed me how much I love the organisational side of performing and how important it is to work as a community to produce these events.

I’m extremely eager to continue making our society as inclusive and accessible as possible. That means providing relaxed performance with specific accommodations, so all families and friends feel comfortable when supporting our dancers. I want to help everyone feel confident on stage working with closely with costume, creating quieter backstage spaces for those who need them, ensuring full videos and breakdowns of dances are available for dances who miss classes whilst also finding extra rehersal time for groups who would benefit from it.
I also want to encourage more people to get involved in extra performances. For the May show, I am involved in three extra routines - Varsity, Fosse, and the Freshers' dance. This has been such a fun way to try different styles, meet new people and even choreograph part of a routine. This led to a few weeks were between modern and ballet I was doing up to 20 hours of dance so I’m more than happy spending long days in tech runs and dress rehearsals.
I’d also love to make more of show week with social media countdowns containing important information, rehearsal snippets, raffles and other interval surprises, charity fundraising goals, and working with both welfare and social secs to create events throughout the week to bring everyone together before and after the show. I’d also love to continue our collaborations with different societies like BSL, Ballet, other dance groups and many more societies for our society showdown!
Being part of modern has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. From weekly classes working towards amazing performances to going on tour with some of my favourite people. I can't wait for another incredible year, and I’d love the chance to be more involved as your Show Rep.

Hey! I’m Annabelle and I would LOVE to be your show rep for 26/27. I’m in my first year studying English Language and Linguistics whilst being part of the intermediate classes for Tap and Contemporary. Not to mention I’m an avid attendee of Wednesday socials and all things Modern🩷.
My goals:
1. Make everybody comfortable and happy
I know how stressful shows can be and as show rep my biggest goal would be to ensure that everybody feels prepared and has fun. I want to introduce refresher classes/ extra rehearsals where people who feel unprepared or not confident in their routine can attend. Additionally, I want to make sure the running orders of shows are the most convenient that they can be to decrease the amount of quick changes as I know this can easily throw people off and cause stress that can be avoided. Finally I want to ensure that everybody feels comfortable in their costumes because I know this can trigger stress for a lot of people. Because of this I want to work closely with costume sec to think of an alternative within the brief where necessary
2. Recording and photography
I don’t know about everybody else but I know my friends and family aren’t easily available to trek to Leeds for a show, but this doesn’t mean that they should miss out. By recording our performance and having our amazing photographer, we can share our performance as well as look back on it next year for memories!
3. Post show socials
After such a fun performance with your friends it’s a bit dulling to just go home don’t you think? For me it’s a great opportunity to celebrate all the hard work by a night out after the show, modern style😉. For those who don’t drink I think it’s equally important to treat yourself and so would love to collaborate with welfare to organise a sober social!
4. Extra dances
One of my favourite modern show traditions is the extra dances. They add spice and excitement to the show and allow those participating to shine in a new way. This is also an opportunity to incorporate other societies which we all know has been a HIT in the past and definitely wont disappoint this year if you vote for me! Finally this is a great area to raise awareness for charities and I would love to incorporate this into our shows as your show rep.

🩷Organisation
I’m ridiculously organised to the point sometimes I question my own sanity. However that means for you information is straightforward, useful and given in advance without any confusion because nobody needs that. I’ve also been complemented on my extreme level of operationalisation at my part time job given I’m driven by completion. So everything I do is done efficiently and in the best interest of others.
🩷Communication
I’m a yapper (if you couldn’t already tell) so you can put all of your trust in me to ensure that I will tell you everything you need to know…and probably more. To many people I’m known as outgoing, confident and loud which in this case is actually a bonus. It means that I will have no trouble presenting in shows and liaising with lighting music and even other societies (I have connections 😉)
🩷Teamwork
Teamwork makes the dream work😝. Shows for Modern are a huge job and having a team behind you will not only make the experience more enjoyable but also stress-free. Whether your team is the committee, your class or your friends, it is important to me that everybody feels part of a part and supported by others.

Hiya! I'm Sophie, a first year Linguistics student. I've been in Modern for nearly a year now and absolutely love it. I currently only do inter-lyrical, but get myself stuck into every other possibility to dance (and definately going to go for more next semester).
I think I would make a good candidate for show rep for a number of reasons. I'm a huge advocate for mental health, and really believe that performing does amazing things for people. I also think shows are a great way for dancers who aren't too confident in competing, to get a chance to show off their talent and passion for dance.
I have preivious dance show experience! In year 12, I was tasked with putting on a show for over 120 dancers from all levels and experiences. This included watching auditions, creating posters and programmes, organising when and where dances would go, and of course hosting the entire night.
I am a very outgoing person, and have no issue whatsover with networking with the correct people in order to produce amazing shows.
Dedicated fully to modern as it is my only society. Meaning my time is committed to making sure the shows run smoothly, and putting my all into organisation.

A few things I would love to add to Modern if I am elected:
1: Inclusivity
Modern is an amazing place to make friends and get stuck into dancing, and I believe we should further this atmosphere. It is mainly a female society (99% haha) and I think the stigma around dance being for girls only should change. I would really like to push the involvement in shows to everyone, showing that it is a completely inclusive society. Solos/ duets/ trios involving all genders would be a great way to start getting more involved.
2: More than dance
I know that there are lots of dancers that would love to showcase some of their talent outside of dance, and would also be a great way to promote other societies. I think that we should include at least 3 performances that aren't dance (i.e. singing, a short drama performance, an instrument).
3. Liase with dancers that are less confident, ensuring that they feel 100% comfortable on that stage.
