Hi, I'm Rebecca and I'd love to be your costume sec next year!
I am a first year student studying English Literature and Creative Writing and I am in Inter Jazz.
I hope to give dancers more of a say in their choice of costumes and to make items more accessible to find. I hope to do this through the use of google polls and draft costume lists. I aim to speak more to the dance teachers as to what they would like costumes to look like, so that the use of costumes for props is easier if this fits the theme of the dance. I also hope to create a three day period post costume-list release for any concerns about costumes to be raised and costumes modified if need be.
I am a creative individual, in my spare time i enjoy drawing and watercolour painting, and I am handy with a needle, so if there's ever a disaster before a show I can be quick to fix it!
I'm resourceful and dedicated to ensuring every dancer gets the costume that works best for them. I think its vital to be comfortable and confident in what you wear on stage and I wish to make this more attainable in Modern!!

Hey everyone, I’m Estella and I would absolutely love to be your next costume rep! I am beyond excited to be running for this role because Modern Dance has been such a major part of my uni experience, and I would love to give back to this society as a member of committee! I am currently a first year neuroscience student obsessed with dance, and have been part of the intermediate tap competition team this year!

I have a passion for fashion and clothes, which I would love to demonstrate through being your costume rep. I love scouring through costume catalogues, which I have had to do in recent years working at my old dance school choosing and ordering stock. I am never afraid to experiment with new styles and will take risks with unique pieces and costumes - I want us to stand out and take home that ‘best costume’ trophy just as we did for Eddy Scizz!

I will effectively plan and order costumes ahead of time, making sure sizes are correct and everyone is happy. I understand the responsibilities of being on a committee, especially as we are such a big society, and I am prepared to devote time and effort to this role. My hands-on degree has taught me important time management and dedication skills that I will transfer to this busy committee role.

I am super enthusiastic about making you all feel as comfortable as possible with what you wear. This is so important when performing in front of a large crowd and so I want you all to have a say in what you wear. I will do this by creating polls on the competition whatsapp group chats with 2-3 options for main garments, allowing you to choose the costume that will make you feel the most confident. I will make sure I am available to deal with any of your questions and queries. In addition, I would continue Lomax’s policy of buying second hand items, not only to keep costs low but most importantly for sustainability. I would also like to continue using plenty of accessories in dances - any excuse to spruce things up! Lastly, I aim to work closely with the comp and show reps, not just from our society but from the other dance societies. This is so we can borrow costumes to help each other out!

Overall, I would absolutely love the opportunity to be your costume rep. I will take all ideas and feedback into consideration to make our costumes in Modern Dance comfortable, stunning and make us feel confident. Hey everyone!! I’m Mary and I’d love to be your costume sec next year!

Performances and competitions heavily rely on costumes, so I would be thrilled to have the chance to assist with planning and overseeing them next year. I want to make sure that everyone is at ease, self-assured, and eager to perform since I know how much confidence a well-made costume can offer dancers on stage.

I'm a very well-organised individual who takes pleasure in organising and maintaining flawless operations in the background. In order to reduce stress before performances and competitions, if chosen, I would concentrate on keeping costumes well-organised, manageable, and communicating to everyone well in advance. I would like to make the costume aspect of things as simple and doable as possible for everyone involved because I am aware of how busy performance season can get.

Additionally, I would like to concentrate on being imaginative with costumes while maintaining member practicality. In my opinion, it's critical that costumes complement the spirit and style of each dance while also ensuring that everyone is at ease and self-assured while wearing them. In addition to ensuring that costumes enhance performances and make our dancers feel their best on stage, I would like to assist in bringing ideas together.

Being personable and ready to assist anyone with last-minute problems or costume worries is something else I would definitely prioritise. Whether it's assisting with costume changes or simply ensuring that everyone is aware of what they need, I would always try my best to remain composed, organised, and encouraging.

Overall, I would love the opportunity to assist in keeping shows organised, imaginative, and stress-free while boosting everyone's confidence on stage. I would genuinely love to be your costume sec and would be thrilled to take on the responsibility!!

Hi I’m Ailish, a modern member for the last 2 years and I would love to be your costume sec next year. I’m a second-year medicine student and you may have seen me in Contemporary, lyrical or jazz class. I have also competed with modern both years and loved every second of it.

My biggest goal if I’m elected costume sec this year is ensuring everyone is able to be the most confident version of themselves during their time with modern. I will create an itemised catalogue with images of every costume modern owns (no costume left behind!!!). This will include the total number of costumes, sizes that are available and also what dances these costumes have been used for previously. I aim to set it out as a booklet that can be emailed round to the teachers and choreographers at the beginning of the year to encourage reuse of costumes we already have available whether that be for competitions or show purposes. I also hope this will foster creativity as I aim to put my sewing skills to good use and redesign/ repurpose some of the old costumes that modern hasn’t used in years. I am keen to do this as it is a sustainable way to create new and exciting costumes. Additionally, I hope to establish relationships with other dance societies to encourage costume sharing.

If elected, I am determined to keep costs down for members. I realise how expensive costume sourcing can be so my aim with the catalogue is to discover and identify costumes we may not know we have. I hope it will also help modern identify key gaps in our inventory of costume components that we often ask members to provide. Therefore, we can invest money into purchasing costumes that offer versatility and can be used for years to come. I will aim to provide details of all costumes for shows as early as possible, so all members have plenty of notice. On top of that, I want every modern member to feel empowered when they go on stage. I hope to be approachable and someone any modern member feels comfortable speaking to about any of their costume concerns. I’ll be living 5 minutes from campus so if anything’s wrong, I’ll be able to dash back and alter it on my sewing machine, or you will be more than welcome to come over and pick out an alternative.

Competitions have been a highlight of my modern experience. They are amazing but also at times stressful. As my friends will attest my comp bag is always bursting at the seams (Mary Poppins who?) whether it’s a spare hair tie or a pick me up snack I’m well equipped to deal with backstage emergencies. If elected as costume sec I will purchase or repurpose an additional costume for each dance. Therefore, in the event of a mishap there is always a backup plan. I hope this will remove unnecessary stress and mean all of us can have the best comp days possible :).
