Hey! I’m Grace, a first year law student and a member of both the advanced jazz and lyrical comp teams. I started dancing when I was 3 years old and have been competing since I was 10 in group dances, solos, duets and trios, so dance has always been a huge part of my life. Over the years, being involved in the competitive dance world has taught me not only technical skills and performance quality, but also the dedication, teamwork and resilience that come with balancing training, competitions and everyday life. Coming to university and joining Modern has genuinely been one of the highlights of my first year, especially comp season! The atmosphere, support and sense of community within the society made me feel so welcomed, and I would love the opportunity to give back by being your Comp Rep for 26/27.
Alongside my passion for dance, I’m also extremely organised and reliable, which I know is essential when it comes to managing a busy competition season. From scheduling and communication to making sure everyone feels prepared and supported, I’d work hard to keep everything running as smoothly as possible. Having represented the society in the solo category this year, I understand both the pressure and excitement that competitions bring, and I know how important it is to create an environment where dancers feel encouraged and confident. Outside of university classes, I continue to train through open classes in Manchester and classes at my home dance school, so I’m always looking to grow and stay inspired as a dancer.
Competing with Modern this year has shown me how important a positive and welcoming team environment is, particularly for dancers of all levels and experiences. One of my biggest goals as Comp Rep would be to help continue building that supportive culture while also maintaining the high standard and ambition the team has already established. I’m really excited by the opportunity to build on the success of LETS DANCE 2026 and help make next season even bigger and better. I’d also love to be involved creatively, especially through helping choreograph an iconic Wildcard routine that truly showcases the talent, energy and personality of our society.

Hii, I’m Abbie and would love to be your new competition rep. I have danced and competed pretty much all my life and feel this role would be perfect for me!

In my first year of modern I have been in advanced lyrical and advanced contemporary classes as well as competing. I competed with advanced lyrical, wildcard and advanced contemporary, which I learnt in 2 hours when needed to step in last minute!! I also competed my solo, placing second twice as well as dancing in the improv section and reaching the final round. Overall, I have loved being a part of modern dance and can’t wait for the next competition year!

I am currently in my first year studying medicine and though it has been difficult it has supplied me with the skills to be the perfect competition rep. I am EXTREMELY organised and cannot go a day without writing a to do list, meaning I would be great for planning the next LETS DANCE. Whilst growing up my life was pretty much cantered around dance competitions, so I definitely know what a perfect dance comp needs. As a medical student, I spend a lot of my time either speaking to patients or healthcare professionals. This has supplied me with excellent communication skills I can use when communicating with external competitions and sponsors.

I am extremely approachable and will always be happy to answer any questions, ensuring everyone feels well informed and ready for the competition season. I want to make competitions as fun and inclusive as possible for everybody, making sure everyone feels comfortable and confident on the competition stage!

My aims:
- Continue to build on the success of LETS DANCE competition, making sure the day is fun and stress free for everyone
- Stay in good communication with external competitions, ensuring everything is well organised and dancers can focus on having the best time competing
- Introduce a competition calendar with all competitions, rehearsals and important dates clearly signposted to make sure everyone can stay organised
- Choreograph an amazing wildcard routine, showing off all of what modern dance has to offer
- Have a mascot at every competition to really boost our team spirit – which we WILL win!!
- Work alongside our social secs to create the best post comp night socials and night away
- Bring home lots of trophies for modern dance!!!

Overall, I want to make competing a really fun part of modern dance and keep up the success of LETS DANCE.

Hello!! I’m Holly, a third-year modern languages student, and this year I’ve been on my year abroad in France/Spain (resulting in lots of dance fomo). I’ve been dancing competitively since 11, and competing with modern since first year in adv jazz, lyrical, contemp, wildcard, int tap and a duet! Joining modern has absolutely been the best part of my uni experience so far, and I cannot wait to be back next year. In my second year, I was inter contemp choreographer, and I’d love the opportunity to become even more involved in my final year and hopefully be your next comp rep!
As a member of multiple comp teams over the past 3 years, as well as helping at Leeds comp ’24 and ’25 - including being judges’ helper this year - I have a strong understanding of how Let’s Dance operates and what it takes to run a smooth, efficient and enjoyable dance competition. I’m organised, reliable, and proactive, and I would work hard to ensure comp season runs seamlessly while making sure every dancer feels supported and enjoys the experience. I understand the level of communication and coordination needed when liaising with other universities and organising a large-scale event, and I’d always be a friendly face people can come to with any questions or concerns.
I’d love the opportunity to build on our successes and help make Let’s Dance 2027 even bigger and better. I’d also love to introduce more strength and conditioning classes to help us reach our full potential as dancers while maintaining the positive and inclusive environment that makes modern so special. Strengthening the cohesion of comp teams is another priority of mine - including bringing back pre-comp meals to help build team spirit and create a supportive atmosphere before competitions. I already have experience choreographing for comps, and my amazing team had a very successful season last year, so I’d be excited to choreograph a wildcard which showcases everyone’s strengths and talents!! I’d also love to reach out to local sponsors (think Pitza Cano or pubs), to support the local community whilst hopefully securing some great benefits for us too.
