Hiya I’m Meg (Megan) and I’m running to be your Treasurer for 2026-27. If successful this will be my third year on committee so it’s safe to say I know Modern like the back of my hand. I’ve had lots of different perspectives as a member from doing only one class and not competing to comp teams and committee roles! I’ll use all my experience to be a fair and reliable Treasurer for you all!

I pride myself on my organisation, especially still putting 100% into my role this year whilst working full-time. I’ll bring this to the role next year - ensuring I have clear budget plans, communicate all payment deadlines with plenty of time, not miss any grant applications or external payment deadlines like comp and can share with you where your membership and class fees go. I am also super chatty, approachable and understanding so I would be great at listening to your ideas and being a friendly face to talk to.


Proposal One: Payment Plans: This is probably the biggest impact I hope to make. I am proposing an opt in/opt out payment plan system (think Klarna lol!) so you can spread your class fees out across the semester. Even though class fees equate to around £2.50 a class, I completely get that having to pay big bulk fees right after Fresher’s week is TOUGH!

I’ll set up 2 class payments across the term so it is more manageable for you.
Of course, I need to keep our accounts healthy so I’ll make sure we get the fees into our account in time to cover what they need to (venue hire and teacher wages).
If you still want to pay in one go because it's easier (or you might forget!) then this will still be an option.
I’m hoping this will allow you all to really get stuck into the society and reduce some of the stress you may feel when you get the class fees email!

Proposal Two: Sustainable and Affordable Merch and Costumes
I’ll continue the partnership between the Treasurer and our Merch and Costume reps to make sure we are choosing the most appropriately priced costumes, being sustainable and using costumes from home/our inventory where we can. I’ll work with the Merch rep so the prices are fair and accessible so everyone can be rocking their best modern outfit to campus.

Finally I’ll build upon all the work Frankie has done this year. I have been fortunate to work very closely with her so will continue our grant applications, promotion of the Leeds Plus Programme and use of the accessibility fund for our shows. These all make a big difference to our society and benefit you as members so it’s a big priority for me!

I would love the opportunity to remain in the Exec Committee next year and assist in a different way this year as Treasurer. Thank you so much for reading and please vote for me to help go for the committee treble!

Hi guys, I’m Lauren and I would love to be your future treasurer. This year modern has brought me so much fun and excitement, through classes, socials and being in advanced jazz, advanced tap and wildcard competition teams. As a very involved member in multiple aspects, I can see and understand the importance of how the money has to be allocated to keep the society excelling, and it excites me to be able to help modern keep up its success!
As an accounting and finance student I feel my degree prepares me for this role perfectly. I am very confident with numbers, financial statements, budgets and excel, and I also spend alot of time staring at spreadsheets. I also have an A* in A-level accounting, so have years of not only experience but also accuracy in this area. So really there’s nothing i'm not prepared for in this role.
Having done 2 finance internships I have plenty of experience in invoicing, tracking spending, financial planning, the list goes on. I’m also always organised with my workload and very responsible with money. I hope to utilise these skills to help me with the following:
I will ensure the budget is well managed and accurate by using previous data and future forecasting, so each element (eg Socials, costumes, shows, Leeds Comp) have enough to continue being amazing
I will handle grant securing, approving expenses and chasing outstanding payments smoothly and efficiently by keeping organised spreadsheets and checklists
I will keep costs low and save where possible so we can reinvest back into our society to make YOUR experience better
I will be transparent with how your money is being used (wisely ofc), by creating regular updates
I will work closely with other committee members to budget and plan events and ways to raise money that you genuinely want to be involved in.

I have absolutely loved joining modern this year and kick myself every day that I didn't join as a fresher so next year I want to make sure everyone has the same experience as I did. I will ensure than all new and returning members feel welcomed and comfortable in the society and make sure they know where their money is going. All information regarding class and comp fees will be detailed so all members, whether they are casual or competing, so they know what they are paying for and why it costs the amount it does. I will ensure our society remains accessible and that the cost reflects the experience we give our members. As a maths student, numbers don't scare me away and I'd love to be able to use my skills to benefit our incredible society and give back after such an amazing year with them. I am organised and responsible so can be trusted with our budget plans and as mentioned I will make sure these plans are shared with the rest of the society. I have strong analytic skills from my degree and paired with my friendly approachable nature I will help modern to have another successful year and maintain the society's affordability. I will listen to any concerns members may have and my advanced maths background and confidence speaking to people will resolve any financial queries or problems the society or its members may have. I will ensure that any events or socials don't become too expensive for our members while providing them with as much of an enjoyable experience as I have had this year with modern. We all love to dance and have made such amazing friendships through it so my role is to support everyone in this and maintain our amazing society by working with all the numbers behind the scenes.
