Hey Modern girlies, I’m Harriet and I’m running to be your social sec next year alongside Ella! Being part of Modern has honestly made my first year so special — not only because of how much I love dancing, but because of all the amazing people I’ve met and the memories I’ve made along the way.
One of my favourite things about Modern is how welcoming and supportive everyone is, and Wednesday nights have easily become the best part of my week. I’d absolutely love the chance to help organise socials that bring everyone together, make new members feel included, and give returners even more unforgettable memories next year!
Me and Ella believe we would be great social secs for several reasons:
-We basically come as a package deal - we’re always together and trust each other completely, we know we can rely on each other and help one another out and also always have the best laughs and fun.
-We are super organised – we have stayed on track with our Uni work (although we don’t have much, so have loads more time to plan socials) and we helped organise freshers revenge and the freshers dance rehearsals timings and dates. Our plan is to bring back monthly social schedules so no last minute amazon orders or costumes disasters.
-Commitment is not an issue – we have attended most of the socials this year, attending everyone single one and chief since Christmas together. Going full out with our costumes and face paint, and fully getting involved in the games. We took this even further when we went on tour with Modern to Barcelona, scoring in the top two teams for tour challenges.
-We are friendly and approachable – we always have smiles on our faces, love to chat to everyone, always there to help and listen, and always bring the energy. We believe that the role of social secs is not to be the drunkest in the room, but to be a point of help, support and friendly face for all the freshers and returners alike. Our role is to bring the energy, fun and games, but also look after everyone and make sure everyone is having the BEST time!
Next year plans:
-We have lots of exciting new social ideas including Hyde park Olympics, loads for sober socials and more joint socials with different societies (not just Basketball all the time, no offence to them but they have no face paint/costume commitment). Also want to get the returners involved more in the socials, as we know many of us at the moment love to dress up and maybe love face paint now, but will always keep this optional for returners.
-We want to introduce the midnight game show – with the concept being we interview members in the middle of the night, usually waking them up and getting funny memories and probably lots of mugs (pictures).
-We wanted to introduce a social award voting system – as Modern is such a big society on a night out, we may miss notable moments, so we wanted to make a voting system to nominate members for social awards for the Instagram.
-Dance Moms – We want to introduced a fresher and returner pairings, giving next years freshers a Dance Mom who looks after them at the start of the year. This will help the freshers feel apart of Modern society quicker, help them with any questions and worries and bridge the gap between freshers and returners.
-New REVs – sadly our honourable REVs is closed so we need to find a new location before we head to Chief – our current favourite option is the famous Popworld, bringing classic pop music and cheesy hits, with a rainbow of bright lights and of course a dance floor.
-More games – we want to continue games at pres, but make them a weekly thing at every social, all being different and related to the social theme. We also everyone to be involved in these, as we know many of us love a game currently.
-Carry on other events like tour (somewhere different to Barcelona though for next year), secret social, Missing in action (discount incoming) and lots more. We also want
to do more nights out in the week, as we know many members can’t attend Wednesday socials due to their timetable and lecture demands.
What we really want to do is make sure socials keep everyone involved, freshers and returners alike, having games and iconic costumes for all members. We’ve had the best time at every single social this year and we want to continue to make Modern the best dance society ever! We would be honoured to follow in Kassia and Lydia's footsteps, and the legacy before them, giving everyone the same fun and memories we were so lucky to experience, because no one does it like Modern!!

Hey everyone I’m Darcy, and I would absolutely love to be your social sec next year!
Modern dance and the socials this year have made me feel so welcome, and I was never afraid to show up alone! I want to bring this same atmosphere for next years freshers, being such a scary time for them the best fix is always a fun Wednesday night. My skills on a Wednesday will include being the loudest person in the room to get attention and being on lights on patrol (we want as many modern girls there for angels as possible!).
I bring a balance of energy and responsibility, always making sure everyone has a great time while staying safe a couple VKs and trebs down (hoping that Gabby doesn’t become a missing person again). I’ve also always been trusted looking after the younger dancers at my previous dance school, showing I’m reliable and approachable, so perfect for welcoming next years freshers. I have decided I will continue to pick random groups for the games, but possibly making them slightly smaller to ensure the freshers have the chance to engage with others and open up to new friendships in modern, as we all know this where we meet our best friends!!
Additionally, I plan having a few more themes including all the society e.g. dress as your type, degree, first letter of your name, etc, giving the freshers a chance to not feel so ugly for once and bring the freshers closer to the returners so we have no divide, as becoming friends with this years returners was one of the best things as it created someone to talk to about any worries or stresses over the year! As for pres my house next year has large open spaces and a garden so perfect for games, I’m ready to be CCTV for the rest of night so modernmadness socials are full of funny pics and videos (kiss cam will be making a strong return next year).
If you vote for me as your social sec, I’’l put everything into making evry social something people look forward to all week - whether that’s for the chaos, memories or just having people around them who make them feel included. I’m always up for a night out, probably incapable of saying no to one, and I’d love the chance to make next year full of the same kind of moments that made me love modern so much this year.

Hey Modern girlies, I’m Ella and I am running to be your social sec next year with Harriet! Joining Modern was genuinely the best decision I made, not just because I love to dance but because of the friendships and memories it has given me. Honestly couldn’t imagine first year without Modern.

Hey girls and guy! I’m Sophie Sinnamon and I’m running for social sec. I have been a dedicated modern girl since the first night (pink night at revs) and I will always stay that. Joining modern has absolutely made my uni experience already and I will be forever grateful for it. It has been so welcoming and everyone is amazing and I plan to keep it that way if I get elected. I am a first year English Lit student, so my contact hours are not too much, giving me lots of time for planning and organising everything. I have so many ideas for our socials and I plan to make them even bigger and better. I want to make sure that everyone has a fair opportunity of getting a mischief code, I know modern has grown so much this year and probably will even more next year. We are still getting the same number of tickets for a smaller society and I plan to change that with mr mischief man because everyone deserves to have the best night of their life every Wednesday. I have sooo many new ideas for socials such as goddesses and grapes, apres ski and snow, milfs and babies, mermaids and fishes, slumber party, dress to impress, tennis players and tennis balls, bunnies and carrots and sooo much more alongside our classic socials! I want the freshers to be full paint as much as possible, no excuses round here! I’ve been a committed fresher, only missing two socials due to being ill and not being in leeds. Whenever we have had costumes with face paint I’ve done full face every time and even did our otley run as Ali G, full beard and everything the whole time. I can promise you my dedication will continue next year. I’d also love to start dance families as a fun way to help freshers and returners bond and to make new friends. I also would want everyone to have a say, and start a little suggestion box for any socials you guys really want to do, to make sure that everyone enjoys it. This includes any socials you’d like to do joint nights with so we can meet new people and sober socials as well where I can work alongside our welfare rep to organise these and making them bigger. Even if you don’t go out or drink, you can still have an amazing time with everyone. Also, I plan on doing other nights out, not just a Wednesday, for example, pub trips and fun activities together. I plan on keeping our modern madness instagram and TikTok pages full of amazing content for everyone. I want to bring back the monthly plans for the socials, making sure there’s lots of time to prepare and no excuses for weak costumes, the bigger the better! Lots of moments on nights out can be missed on social awards so I want to make sure everyone gets their place for all funny moments so nominations can be sent in as well. Since our beloved revs has been shut down we have been slightly homeless in between pres and chief, although disco spoons has been super fun. I’d love to take it one step further to try and get us a deal with pop world and show hockey that we run this town x. I know there is soooo much more to the role. There’s a lot of responsibility and organising. Being ‘in charge’ of everyone on a Wednesday is very important, I will be looking out for everyone and making sure everyone is safe and having a good time. I am super sociable and chatty, and want to be a friendly face for everyone to speak to always, whether in classes, on a night out or just around campus. The bar is set super high because of our amazing Lydia and Kassia, and I aim to keep it that way and making our amazing society even more so (if possible!). Hi! I’m Grace, a first-year psychology student, and I would love to be your next Social Sec. I’ve been a dedicated Modern gal since day 1 and being part of this amazing society has made my first year at uni so special. Dance has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember, and this year I have enjoyed doing jazz, tap, technique classes, performing at varsity colour run and choreographing the Fresher’s dance. Next year I plan to audition for competition teams and am so excited for what my second year in Modern will bring.
I can NEVER say no to a night out (or a Blue Treb) and Wednesdays are the highlight of my week. I love dressing up in weird outfits, spending all night with my dance girls, and getting on (or falling off) the podium. HOWEVER, I’m also responsible and organised, which makes me a perfect fit for this role. I was an assistant teacher at my dance school, and member of my school’s Dance Leadership Team during sixth form, giving me experience leading groups, staying organised, and creating a welcoming environment for dancers. I recognise the communication, organisation and coordination required for this role and feel well prepared to take on these responsibilities. I am confident in my ability to maintain professional relationships with companies such as Mischief, Fresh2Death, and drink partnerships.
My promises

- Reintroduce the monthly calendar for themes so you have time to plan outfits
- Continue the Modern leg hold streak, lights on legends, and those social awards we all look forward to
- ALWAYS wake up with a full camera roll on Thursday
- Keep Modernmadness pages active and up to date
- Ensure that returners are just as included at socials with fun outfits, games, and challenges for EVERYONE
- Work closely with welfare rep to arrange more regular sober socials - I love a wholesome activity as much as a night out and want all Modern members to feel valued and included
- Continue Lydia and Kassia’s legacy with fresher's week welcome drinks, celebratory post show and comp socials, joint socials, secret socials, tours, and potentially some new and exciting surprises…
From the start of pres to lights on at chief, I promise to make every Wednesday a night to remember (or not, depending on how many Trebs you’ve had)

Hey divas! I am Emma, also known as stalker fresh, and I would love to be your social sec next year.
Modern has become a huge part of my life since joining university from weekly socials to competition season and everything in between. I have been dancing since I was five and this year I have taken inter tap classes as well as being a part of the competition team and would love to give jazz a try next year! As the class clown of the competition season, I know how to bring the fun to all aspects of modern dance, especially when cheering my team mates on. It does not take a lot to convince me to go out, obvious by my 100% social attendance and this dedication will shine through as social sec. Green facepaint and a silly costume hates to see me coming and I can’t wait to be the one enforcing mandatory facepaint for freshers as well as fun games at house pres.
Whilst many of you know me for being a silly fresh, I truly understand not only the commitment but the responsibility of being social sec. I have taken on roles of responsibility within modern dance and back at home. This year I am the freshers dance choreographer for the tap section and at home I choreographed multiple routines for my school’s gym and dance show. As well as choreographing, I was a gymnastics coach for two years, where I built on my team work and communication skills - I study languages afterall! As a joint honours student, I have the organisational skills necessary to balance the two sides of my degree and will use these skills when arranging socials and contracts with event/drink companies.
My goals:
New social themes and ideas such as a modern olympics, a wedding social with freshers dressed as hens and returners as different guests ie bridesmaids, best man etc, stalker social where freshers make presentations for pres on their findings on a returner, scavenger hunts, fridge to fridge and many more
To secure a popworld contract - as a popworld lights on warrior, this is something I feel passionately about
Set up a “family” system where freshers are assigned a returner which is a great way for freshers to meet other members and know a friendly face from the start of the year
I hope to make socials as inclusive and affordable as possible by using modern’s budget efficiently and hosting regular sober socials such as run clubs, bowling and crafts so there is something for everyone
I know joining a new society, as big as ours, can be daunting so I will prioritise everyones wellbeing and safety as socials should be a time to relax and make memories
To implement a social calendar (for sober socials as well) so we can all plan our costumes in advance
I loved the post competition socials this year and next year I would love to make the post Leeds competition social even bigger by getting as many of the other competing universities involved and all modern members of course
Introduce the midnight game show as a series on tik tok and I am an experienced host
Continue the successful modern madness tik tok page and encourage members to send tik toks in to be posted
Create a whatsapp group for social photos to be shared on and we can vote for the social awards on there
More collabs with other societies as I know many members of other sports societies who have a shared love of mischief such as mens lacrosse, freestyle, gymnastics, women’s cricket and many more!
The fun does not have to end after mischief and I would love to run the occasional thursday rollover next year
I have had the best year with modern dance and I would love to give back to the society by carrying on Lydia and Kassia’s legacy and making next year’s socials the best yet!
