Hey everyone, my name is Luca Wigley, and I have been in the society for roughly three years now. I study BA History and I'm currently on a study year abroad in Munich, Germany and I am returning next year for my final year of my degree.

Whilst I have not been able to be fully present this year due to being in Germany, my return to society events such as the BUKC and Tdy at Tockwith has been immense fun, and it has been nice to see so many new faces in the society. In my first and second years at university, the society was a big part of my enjoyment during those years, and it would be a great joy to come back as the social secretary and continue the positive impact the society has on so many.

If elected as social secretary I would bring a plethora of new ideas and also expand on the continued success of social events this year and the year before that. In particular, F1 viewings at the pub have always been an integral part of the society and have always been very successful in bringing the whole society together in a relaxed setting. Continuing the tradition of F1 viewings makes our society unique in a good way and must be continued. Furthermore, I would love to add a whole new array of social events. Not just nights out but an array of activities such as bowling, karaoke and pool will make each social outing unique and enjoyable. To expand on this, I would also increase collaborative efforts with other societies for example, Darts society, Leeds snowriders, and Leeds Surf, in having socials together. This would add a new fun element to socials and make more people meet and network, which is always a positive thing in my opinion. Lastly, I would also entertain the possibility of having a Leeds Motorsport football or cricket team during term time to give society members the possibility of staying active during the year whilst enjoying sport.

Generally speaking my empathetic and understanding nature as a person will make me suited to the role of social secretary, as I will always be willing to listen and fully gauge what members of the society would like to do socially. Furthermore, my past experience of social events in the society as well as other societies has fueled my understanding of what is needed to make a great social gathering.

I am a 2nd year Psychology student who really enjoys motorsport, particularly the society nights out and F1 viewings. I would love to be Social Secretary as I want to play a part in organising fun socials for the society, including F1 viewings, nights out, and sober socials. I have been a part of the society for the past year and I want to continue the work of the previous Social Secretary, with a focus on more themed socials for those who want to get creative and dress up!

Hi, my name is Valentyn, and I am very excited to be running for social secretary this year!

I have been an active member of the society this year and have enjoyed every bit of it. What made it truly special were the socials (curtesy of Meg). They really allowed all of the individuals in the society to interact and connect with one another creating friendships which are likely to last a lifetime. This is why I am running for social secretary. I would love the chance to provide the same experience that I had this year to all of the freshers and older years next year, making sure uni never turns into university.

What I would aim to achieve if I was to get the role:
Shape the socials in a way which makes everyone happy
- I would achieve this either by interacting with every member in person or sending out a questionnaire to figure out everyone’s interests. Based on the answers I will adjust the ratio of sober to drinking socials to fit everyone’s likes and make sure a greater amount of people attend socials this year.

Bring in new socials which we didn’t have last year
- I will aim to bring in socials which are new to the society, namely pub golf, mini golf and possibly even a friendly football match. I will also aim to try and get at least a few mischief tickets every week for the society in case any of the members want to go😄

More meaningful society collaborations
- Last year in any collaborative social the individuals from different societies didn’t interact or make friends with one another. When designing collaborative socials, I will make sure that everyone interacts with one another and really integrates to make one big group. This will also strengthen our connections with other societies in Leeds.

Themes chosen by you
- I will send out polls for people to vote on the different themes for our socials like the Otley run which will have a society dress theme which you will now have a say on it!
- There will always of course be an option to not have a theme for a social as I know we’re all broke and buying outfits specifically for a night out is expensive

Continue our F1 watch alongs at the Library Pub
- F1 watch alongs is what the society is really about, and I will be very excited to continue the tradition. Isn’t it just a wonderful thing to sit around a table with your friends and watch Stroll crash.

The society really means a lot to me, and I would love to give back and support it next year by designing wonderful socials. Thank you so much for reading! I hope I can live up to the legacy of Daniel and Meg and make the society proud.
