Hello!
I’m Ruby, and I’m currently in my second year studying chemistry, but don’t let that fool you, I absolutely love music more than anything. I have been part of the Album Review Society for three years now, and it genuinely is the best society on offer. I would love to be part of the momentum to keep the society as amazing as it is.
I am a well-known member of the society; I’ve been at every album review and social. I also helped organise the final social last year, which was a brilliant way to end it. I had so much fun helping with it and would love to do it full-time as the events secretary.
In Semester 2 of this year, I took on the Events Secretary role and had a big part to play even though it was for a short space of time. I have helped organise socials and the end of year gig. I have helped with social media posts and have started my own Artist Spotlight, which is something really important to me. One of my biggest passions is supporting the grassroots scene, and the Leeds scene is an incredible one. So many local artists are out there who deserve recognition, and I make biweekly dedicated posts to these artists across all different genres. This is something I will continue and would love to work with the society to keep finding new artist recommendations to include.
I really want to push more for gigs this coming year as we all love music, and the best way to enjoy it is live, surrounded by people who love it as much as you do. I am a huge supporter of the bands within our society. I want to organise more gigs to give bands new opportunities to develop, so I will put on more open mic nights, and the end-of-year gig will be another opportunity too. Some of my main aims for next year are to put on a secret social, get a few more themes during the reviews, and collaborate with other societies.
I believe that I would be suitable for this role because I am inclusive and open. I would love to hear everyone’s ideas and incorporate these so everyone feels heard. This would include hosting bi-weekly socials between album reviews, allowing everyone to gather in a range of different settings that cater to everyone's interests. Because not everyone wants to shout in each other’s ears whilst loud music plays! I want to keep these regular opportunities for everyone to be able to make friends and try new things. I want to be a good person to reach for welfare support so that everyone is safe and included in this special society. I know how daunting it feels trying new societies and making friends, so I want to do what I can to make everyone feel involved all the time.
I have genuinely loved every minute of my time in Album Review. I have felt so welcomed and free to be myself when it comes to music because where I’m from, the music scene is pretty non-existent. I have met great pals and can’t wait to meet more as well; I love hearing everyone talking about their favourite artists and bands. As events secretary, I will ensure everyone gets to be part of an amazing society with so many fun socials and events. So please do consider voting to re-elect me in this role.
