Hi everyone! I’m Stella and I would like to nominate myself for Social Secretary for the LUU English Society. I am currently in my second year on the BA English and Music course, and I would like the opportunity of being Social Secretary to add to my involvement in English Society last year.
I believe my skills and experience will help me to be an effective Social Secretary, as I have participated in the English Society but also been a committed member of LUUMS which has afforded me a broad understanding of what makes a successful university society.
Currently, I am an Events Assistant for Opera North and I believe that has provided me with the organisation, planning and creative skills necessary to help plan socials effectively. In addition, I have volunteered and been an NCS Team Leader which involved organising lots of trips and meetings with various stakeholders; meaning I would be perfectly capable of meeting the demands of being Social Secretary while also liaising with other Social Secs and members of the committee.
I would like to run for Social Secretary to contribute to my experience of a warm and welcoming society which is accessible to new and returning students. I would also like to provide fun and exciting opportunities for English Society members with a variety of different activities planned to boost engagement with the whole English cohort.
I plan to create activities tailored to drinkers and non- drinkers, so there is something for everyone including Otley Runs and day trips to local landmarks like Kirkstall Abbey. Other plans include pub quizzes with epic prizes and honouring the annual trip to another city, potentially one abroad. As well as, of course, keeping English Tea going (with the good biscuits too)!
I also promise to foster and create an inclusive and inspiring environment and ensuring that English Society remains accessible to all.

Hey everyone!!!

My name is Emilie Kamasa, I’m a second year English and Comparative Literature student, and would adore to be one of your social secretaries for next year! 😊My favourite book is ‘The picture of Dorian Gray’ by Oscar Wilde, but don’t worry, my socials wouldn’t reach Dorian’s level of chaos and immorality (unless you guys want it to). If you’re needing a relaxing little breather, or even a feral night out (which I am a fan of), I’ll be here to organise it. I’ve got some really fun ideas, from cosy pizza evenings in to chat about anything and everything (I love a waffle, it's why I can write all my essays), to comedy nights at Headrow! If you fancy a cheeky 2-for-1 at East Village, look no further as I have your interests as my priority. Part of English comes the listening as well, which makes me so excited to get the chance to hear what you all need to have fun! I loved playing for the English netball team, my EngSoc Netball hoodie being my prized possession, and would love the chance to help organise more things for everyone. Whether you need a coffee catch up at English tea on Wednesday’s, or shots all round, I’m your girl!
