I am currently on a placement year, returning to Uni for my third year of Mechanical Engineering in September. I have been a keen member of the society since binning it on the simulator in the Fresher’s Fair in 2019, despite this narrowly missing out on a top 3 finish. Last year’s committee took Esports a step further with the ETdY championship, which I believe is a fantastic idea to keep members of the society active who can’t make other events/socials. If elected, I would ensure the ETdY tournament or other sim-racing opportunities continue to be available to compete in.

One of my favourite parts of the society is the Tour De Yorkshire karting championship, in which we travel to various local karting venues such as Teamsport Leeds, Three Sisters and Tockwith and usually race in a Qualifying → Race format. The TdY got me into regular karting in my first year, as such persuading me into BUKC 18 months later, however I still find the TdY provides excellent fun, competitive karting whilst improving your racecraft. This has been expertly organised over the years and I wish to keep that going, including as many rounds as we can reasonably fit into a term.

I plan to build as much interest in karting this September as possible to maximise funding from the Union. This way the TdY will get a higher subsidy, making it more accessible to all. And what better way to finish a Wednesday off than a social in Old Bar? If elected, I would ensure I worked efficiently with our Social Sec and other committee members to organise events such as socials after TdY rounds. A large proportion of this would involve working closely with our Events Coordinator, so I pledge to have regular communication with them in order to organise other events.
These other events could include:
- Attending motorsport events such as BTCC or British GT’s. We are fortunate to have Donington Park, Oulton Park and Croft Circuit all within about 90 minutes of our campus!
- Continuing to host events that encourage female participation in motorsport.
- Collaborations and karting competitions against other nearby Universities.
- Helping organise post-event socials, the AGM where needed.

Part of my reasoning for wanting to be on committee this year is so I can make new members feel welcome to ensure the society continues growing at the rate is has this year. I want to put back into the society at least a small chunk of the memories and enjoyment I have had during my time in Leeds. I would love to see more members develop their karting skills and progress into our BUKC team through the TdY as I did.

I am a first year Maths and Computer Science student who is excited at the opportunity to be on next year's Motorsport Society committee.
Don’t let the first year part fool you though. In the 8 months I’ve been in this society, I’ve done a lot to get me experience of what the Motorsport Society is about.
The Tour de Yorkshire is a core part of the society and I want to expand the number of people we can involve in it. TdY has brought many rivalries and friendships in all the rounds this year, which has helped strengthen the society.
Bringing in people of many abilities, from beginners to Kieran, it allows for some interesting and enjoyable racing.
TdY has been a joy to race in, with the GIAG and first couple rounds already convincing me to join our BUKC team for this year, which has been an incredible experience.
I want to expand this opportunity of racing to more people in the society so they to can find a regular, competitive and thrilling event to enjoy with others.
But for those who are unable to attend, the eTdY is another staple of the society.
Sim-racing is a great way for people to get involved in racing with the benefit of less bruises. Although it may get less attention than the kart racing events, I think that eTdY has the potential to grow and become a potential alternative for those who can’t attend our karting events.
I want to give the opportunity for people to compete in online races against each other, if numbers allow, and bring another place to strengthen our society.
I’ll also ensure that all season results will release before Ferra-
*Mclaren* win another championship (to be on the safe side).
I also want to continue the societies interest in watching competitive racing.
Our F1 socials at Walkabout are where you’ll find many members of our society. But I want to continue to grow interest in going to watch BTCC and other motorsport leagues at nearby tracks.
The Motorsport Society has been the highlight of my year at uni, that’s why I want to be part of next years committee. I want to help be a part of making it the highlight for people next year, be it because of karting, sim-racing, watching races, socials or whatever people like most about the society.

Yo yo what is up guys, welcome to my application. My name is Roman (Jarno) and I'm currently studying Aviation technologies. I'm running for the "Events Manager" as I want to organise more events and cater to everyone's Interest in Motorsport.

Hey, my name’s Mohammed and I’m running for the position of Events Manager for 2022/23.

This September I’ll be going into my third year studying Mechanical Engineering, my dream to one day work within Formula One and break through into competitive racing myself. I joined this society nearly a year ago now, and it’s been incredible, from chatting about F1 on the coach rides to sharing tips on how to set quicker lap times.

The Tour De Yorkshire is what we all love most, a chance for everyone of any skill or ability to prove themselves on the track. I want to respect tradition and not try to fix what isn’t broken, we love the TdY how it is, but I’d love the opportunity to hold society-wide votes on enhancing the competition. This could include partnering up drivers within races into F1-style partnerships, working together for collective points, or taking this a step further and introducing ‘constructor’ teams of 5 or 6 drivers, allowing you to form a larger team with your mates and work together towards building up points towards a Constructor’s Championship. This would involve designing your own team emblem, colour scheme, and team name. My goal as Events Manager is to implement these changes and turn the TdY into an elite competition, as well as giving more members the chance to get involved with the BUKC.

I believe myself to be very qualified for this role, with a vast amount of experience in planning work events and competitions in the past. I would love the opportunity to show what I’ve got and turn this society into an elite home of racing within the University of Leeds, whilst maintaining the relaxed social feel of this society we all love.
