After being a part of this society for three years now I’m always blown away by how friendly, fun, and inclusive it is regardless of how long you’ve been around for. The time I’ve spent involved in this community has always been a highlight for me, so by (hopefully) being your social sec, I hope I can help make that the case for you guys too and give something back to this insanely amazing society.

Some of you may know that I was lucky enough to be social secretary two years ago… just as the lovely blur we sometimes refer to as “lockdown” happened. This obviously wasn’t ideal for socialising. With that in mind, I’d love to have a better go at it and actually try and do all the stuff I said I would before covid reared it’s ugly-ass head.

Now that covid doesn’t exist anymore, apparently, I’d love to start offering up more socials that can involve as many people as possible, including the possibility of organising chill weekly pub catch ups, termly curries, and nights out. And of course, F1 viewings at Walkabout will always remain a part of our society don’t worry.

Alumni, if you can hear me from your respective retirement homes, you will also be involved with these and more; it’s so important to me that the great sense of inclusion and community we’ve maintained for so long remains for everyone that’s been a part of the motorsport society (i.e. I haven’t seen Dent properly wankered in a club yet).

On top of this, I’ll (hopefully again) be back to leading the social media for the society. Instagram, Facebook, Discord and WhatsApp play such huge roles in getting you engaged with the club as well as attracting as many newcomers as possible at the start of the year if Adam’s lanky limbs don’t scare them all off. And as usual, whether I get the role or not, I’ll be on hand taking photos of all you lovely people :)

As cringy and vomit-inducing as it sounds, I really love the motorsport society, many of my best friends and memories from university have come from it. It’d be great to be back on committee again for you lot.

I would like to be the motorsport social secretary because I believe that social events are very important in introducing new members into our community and for forming connections and friendships between people with similar interests. I believe as social secretary I can help to facilitate this and have a say in strengthening our society.
I believe I am a good fit for the position because I am a strong leader and work very well in a team which translates perfectly to running social events. I have always been interested in motorsport, particularly in F1 and karting within the society but I have also followed the BTCC and WRC.
On top of this, I have some experience organising and hosting social events such as team nights out for my old rugby team and a charity pub quiz and believe I have the knowledge and skills required to transfer these to the motorsport society. I am not afraid of standing in front of a crowd or having responsibility put upon me so will be able to communicate effectively with businesses, the university and the members to organise successful events.
I am also very willing to learn and have been involved in many of the social events during the previous year, giving me experience of what works, what people enjoy and the types of events suitable at different times of the year.
These experiences will help me bring new ideas for the society to hold bigger and better events of all kinds ranging from karting trips to online quiz nights to pub crawls. I also believe there is space for the motorsport society to run events with other societies and build lasting connections with these, benefitting the society into the future. I understand the need for a diverse range of events to help strengthen our community and make sure no one feels left out so if I am elected, I will make sure a large range of events will take place.
I am committed to putting in the time required to organise these events as I enjoy doing so and I am also committed to other duties required such as using the society's social media accounts to promote the events and to receive feedback.
Ultimately, if I am elected, I will strive to run exciting and enjoyable events to help build on the fantastic atmosphere within our society and push to make the society as popular and successful as it can be.
