Hi everyone!

For those who don’t know me, my name is Keiran and I’m a philosophy PhD student researching consciousness here at Leeds.

I began my meditation practice back in 2018, and since then meditation has really been a staple in my life, allowing me to find peace of mind in difficult times. During the pandemic, I would begin and end each day with a singing bowl mediation in my flat, or an online guided meditation, and I always say that the practice kept me sane while trying to do a Masters in lockdown!

I have some strong experience in leading committees. In 2018-19 I was President of the History Society at Royal Holloway. It was the biggest society we had on campus, and over the course of the year we held dinners, balls, boat parties and a trip abroad for 35 people. Here at Leeds, I am currently the leader of the PGR Research Seminar in Philosophy and organise the weekly presentations of the department’s new research.

With this experience, I’d hope to expand the outreach of our meditation society and organise new events for us next year: more mindfulness hikes and walks to get us out into nature, new events - perhaps an international retreat, and to continue strengthening our connection to Leeds and the surrounding areas, to make our community a hub for people wanting to explore the practice.
