Hi everyone,
As the former Vice President of UGAS, I’m excited to nominate myself for President this year! I’m passionate about expanding the society by organising more in-person events and increasing the number of practical sessions. I will also do my best to involve as many students as possible, including introducing the world of Anaesthetics to pre-clinical students.

Hi, I’m Rhys, a soon to be final year medical student with a passion for anaesthesia.
 
I’m applying to be your President because I believe in the potential of this society and would love to lead it going forward into another year. An often-overlooked specialty, my passion stemmed from my fourth-year placement, and I would like to focus on exposure to the specialty to earlier years, to begin career planning and networking with those in the field.
 
If elected I will ensure a smooth transition from Lewis, to continue the hard work of the previous committee and build on the exciting plans for the society, as well as bringing fresh ideas to the table.
 
I would like to focus on:
• Creating opportunities for mentorship, hands on experience and potentially research
• More engaging and hands-on events, collaborating with other societies
• Engaging for everyone – whether you’re set on anaesthetics or just exploring specialties
• Teaching opportunities – This would be more focused on the ACC component of fourth year and will include teaching and mock OSCE practice
 
I have previous experience on committee in other societies such as CardioSoc and have held leadership roles both academically and in sports. These have taught me how to lead with clarity, listen actively, and work with my teammates. After intercalating at another university last year, I bring a fresh perspective to the committee on new events, running a society and networking with peers and professionals. One of my strengths is my ability to connect with people. I’m approachable, friendly and reliable, which has not only made me a supportive teammate but also a trustworthy leader. I have made some good connections while on my ACC placement and am confident that I can bring relevant and engaging speakers for events during the year.
 
I excited about the opportunity to lead the society, and I promise to keep it smooth, controlled and always well-monitored.
