Hello, my name is Charlie, and I am excited to be running for the 5th year rep of UGAS next year!
I have had really great experiences in anaesthetics throughout medical school and I now have an interest in perusing it in the future and would love to be a part of UGAS committee to be able to share my enthusiasm with others.

I have also really enjoyed completing my ESREP in paediatric anaesthetics and this has enabled me to connect with many anaesthetists in Leeds who I would be like to create links with for the society, many with research opportunities that would be of interest to 5th years!

Aside from my interest in anaesthetics, having been on previous committees throughout my time at university including Medics Netball and the University Boat Club I have experience working on a committee and would be able to help with the day-to-day running’s of UGAS throughout the year.

I have absolutely loved my time at Leeds and would really like to be able to give back in my final year through being part of a committee for a speciality that I have really grown to love!

My name is Ruhi and I am keen to contribute to UGAS in the role of 5th Year Representative due to my strong interest in the specialty, which was sparked during my anaesthetics block in my 4th year ACC placement. Anaesthetics appeals to me due to its combination of applied physiology, hands-on procedures, and the need for calm and focused decision-making in high-pressure/acute situations. I’m also drawn to the strong teamwork involved, and working closely with other professionals is something I truly enjoy and value.

I believe anaesthetics is a vital yet often under-recognised specialty. Anaesthetists play a critical role in patient care, particularly as the last point of contact before surgery. They help create a safe, reassuring environment and build essential rapport with patients during vulnerable moments. It’s a field that requires both technical precision and genuine empathy, which are qualities I continuously aim to develop.

As a representative, I would like to ensure that final-year students are well-supported through exam-focused teaching and also career guidance. I will ensure to bring organisation, clear communication and collaboration to help keep the society effective and engaging for final years.
