As a South Asian woman studying Chemical Engineering, I am excited to apply for the Women in STEM role. I have gained valuable experiences that have deepened my passion for STEM, including attending summer school in South Korea where I studied AI and Technology, Society, and Sustainability. I will be starting a placement year at IBM in June. Moreover, next month I will be heading to France to study Business Environment in Latin America and Negotiation Management at Audencia University. I am committed to seeking out mentorship, connecting with other women in STEM, being open to learning new things, and advocating for diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM. I am thrilled to work with the Women in STEM community to advance gender equity and create a more inclusive future for all in STEM. Thank you for considering my application.

As a member of the formula student team and an engineering student I understand what it's like being marginalised by my gender within STEM settings. Male dominated spaces such as a STEM lecture hall or even a careers fair have often seemed very daunting to me and in my mind as the STEM director I would like to be able to organise events that allow other women in STEM to have the same opportunities, without feeling overshadowed by more confident male counterparts. The best part about this opportunity would be able to be a role model for women that I never had previously, I would love to be able to give back and show women in STEM at the university what we can do, despite maybe not growing up with the same opportunities or role models.

As your STEM director, I hope to plan, organise, and execute events allowing students to network, learn and grow as individuals. Being a woman in the STEM industry can sometimes be isolating, so I hope to create a safe environment for us to mingle and encourage the conversation of equal opportunity for women in STEM.

My name is Serena, and I am a first-year Natural Science student studying Maths, Physics and Chemistry. I really have a passion for all things science- especially studying 3 of them! I also completed a engineering enrichment with my College through Lancaster University as well as learning about how to mathematically model scientific phenomena in Excel through Oxford University, giving me a great insight into all the STEM subjects! With leadership experience and a passion for this role! I would really love to add to the societies vision by providing memorable events targeted towards STEM students!
