Hi everyone! I am a second year law student and aspiring barrister. I am running for this role as WILS has made such an important impact on my university experience. I joined WILS in my first year and the Empower Conference was the first networking event I ever attended. The Empower Conference has been crucial to my network and truly did make me feel empowered as I gained some of my first ever LinkedIn connections. I hope in this role I will be able to offer a similar experience for students and help them begin to build their own personal brand and network. As a young women from a disadvantaged background, this community is incredibly important to me as it promotes inclusivity and widening participation. My dedication to this can be seen through my work this year with the 93% club as Clubs Director. In this role I oversaw the running of 60 on campus committees and helped them pitch and organise smaller scale events. I was also very active in the running of two national events both with drew large crowd of socially mobile students. I hope to use these experiences to offer a bigger and better Empower Conference for 2024 by widening the industries present to also include those that are less represented such as tech and media as well as offering a more active day that includes mock interviews and CV checks, having successfully helped provide this before. Likewise, I am eager to provide the best sub-committee possible as in my role as Clubs Director I have a lot of leadership experience which means I can delegate well based on peoples strengths, problem-solving and work well under pressure. I am a dedicated and confident leader and have many skills which naturally lend themselves to this role and it would be a pleasure to be part of this committee! Hello everyone! I’m an international student from India pursuing my first year of BA Business Management. I’m so excited to be running for the role of Conference director of WILS for the next academic year.

Why WILS? - As a woman of colour, one of my life goals is to work towards widening the access to education for young girls back home and provide them with an opportunity to choose for themselves. The appreciation for womanhood and the sense of inclusivity that WILS fosters was something I truly thought was wonderful. I believe in their vision of women's empowerment and to be able to contribute towards it would be an honour!

My plans as the Conference Director? - As an involved member of LUBS Soc, WILS and Enactus, I understand the workings of society and the execution of various professional and social events. Having attended the WILS conference this year, I want to bring in creative ideas to really widen its engagement. My idea is for making more member-driven decisions when it comes to improving the conference this year. By indulging in getting feedback from the members, necessary changes can be made to ensure that the immense success that is achieved this year is carried forward. Through this conference, womanhood is celebrated and I would make sure to take any decisions that really value that cause. Moreover, the networks I have made in my first year by working as the student ambassador and attending spring insight weeks and professional events would come to be extremely valuable while dealing with sponsorships and reaching out to professionals to be on the panel.

Why me? - Throughout high school, I have led and organised various large-scale events like Model United Nations and Farewells. The experience I gained from planning ahead, conducting meetings, taking risk assessments and working under pressure would allow me to put my best foot forward while leading the sub-committee and ultimately making the event a success. I’m a reliable person with previous experience in marketing, finance and leadership roles which would really allow me to help anyone from the committee anytime! Apart from that, I’m a confident person with good organisational and communication skills (took training in public speaking previously) which I believe is extremely significant to play a role with such responsibilities. Having a keen eye for detail, I believe I have a lot to offer to this role and society as a whole. I would really appreciate your vote for me!!!

Hello, my name is haniyya, I’m currently a second year mechanical student interested in the aerospace sector. I am also an active member of LURA, the leeds university rocketry association where I work on aerostructures. I would love to be the stem director for Wils and help empower the next generation of women in engineering. We are most certainly a minority in the field but that can be used as a strength and should not intimidate anyone from achieving their goals.
