Hi, I’m Harriet and I’m running for Welfare Officer. I’m passionate about mental health and the mission of Mind Matters, as it is a cause close to my heart. Having had the opportunity this year to be Welfare Officer, I hope this role can encourage us all to take care of our own wellbeing and that of each other.

I’ll be returning to Leeds in September as a second year Psychology with Education student. I’m conscious of the need for support and the importance of wellbeing. It is important to me to ensure that everyone feels listened to and can be guided to the right support, regardless of whatever is on your mind, especially knowing myself that uni life can be a challenge! I would love the opportunity to continue to be part of the committee and to use my role as Welfare Officer to support fellow committee members, volunteers and our wider student community. I am approachable, friendly and inclusive, with good listening skills, as when I’m not at uni or studying (!), I work at a local hospice. I hope this has helped with understanding the wider issues outside of uni life.

I aim to promote open communication within the society, ensuring everyone feels supported and valued. I’d like to run weekly drop-ins on campus and to be seen as an accessible and friendly face within the society. Whether it is just offering a listening ear or a chat, I want to ensure that I’m approachable and that I’m able to hopefully offer some fellow peer support. As a de-stress for myself I bake so will try and bring along some goodies to meetings, even if you just pop by to grab a treat!
