Heya everyone :) I’m really excited to be running for the position of President for my second year on committee!

This year as your Events Coordinator I’ve had a lot of fun running & organising events and I’d love to keep dedicating myself to the society and making it the best community to be a part of! I have a few goals I’d like to achieve this year, all based on my experience as a member and having a year on committee:

✅ Ensuring the diverse interests of our members are met
It’s wonderful that the society has become so big and with it our members have so many different areas of interest! I want to make sure we have loads of unique events to cater for everyone and help like-minded people meet each other and find new passions! I think the balance of competitive and chill events is super important and it’s something I want to explore going into next year.

✅ Increasing accessibility
1️⃣ Making the BUKC Guide earlier this year, I aimed to help anyone interested to understand the sport better, as in my first year and even this year, I struggled to get to grips with it. This is one of the many projects I’d like to continue working on to make accessing information easier for people who want to join the society & get involved! I’d also like to increase transparency regarding events and spending, as you’ve elected us onto committee, you should have access to information on how the society is ran! 📋

2️⃣ The continuation of our GIAGs and Women’s Only events is a must. Both of these events helped me and many other first years integrate into the society. Events like these also develop race skills and help people make the move into TdY and even BUKC. I’m extremely passionate about our Women’s Only events, especially our now-annual Parkwood collaborative event brings women together and reinforces the strong community of female racers.

✅ Keeping costs low
The society is a wonderful environment to attend loads of different events. Karting is a very expensive sport & I want to work with our Treasurer and EM to keep ticket prices as low as possible across events and locations throughout the year. I aim to do this by creating sponsorships/partnerships and ensuring strong financial planning to ease monetary pressure on those wishing to come to all our events, whilst having the best time! 💸

✅ Taking suggestions and feedback
Our society starts with you guys! You make it amazing and I want to hear any suggestions or feedback you have throughout the year to make your experience the best it can be :)

✅ Collaboration with other committee members
This year I’ve had so much fun working with all our committee members on some fun projects and I want to carry that into next year! I want to aid other committee members to reach their goals & develop skills throughout the year. To achieve this, regular meetings with pre-set agendas will allow everyone’s voices to be heard, reflection on recent events and discussion for any upcoming activities.

Working to create great relationships with our Union, other Leeds societies and other universities is a priority to maximise the success of our events and partnerships throughout the year and for the future of the society.

Hi all, I’m George and I’m a third year Maths and Computer Science Student on a year in industry going into my final year at uni. I’ve been a member of the society since my first year and have been an avid karting and F1 fan ever since.
Those who have been in the society for a while will know me as last year’s Events Coordinator along with being the founder of hiding things in people’s cars (sorry to all those affected, including myself).
You may have seen me at Wakefield Endurance, BUKC inters rounds and some socials like Mollie’s birthday (I apologise for what I was wearing).
As President I will continue the hard work that this year’s committee have put in to create a welcoming environment and continue expanding our events to make next year the best one yet.

With my time on committee and my years in the society, I believe I have enough experience to support everyone in their new roles, help them make the most of their time and smoothly integrate our newest committee role, Media Manager.
My year in industry has shown the effectiveness of regular meetings along with the importance of communication in a team and utilising those with expertise to support those who may need assistance.
As such, I would introduce more regular meetings discussing upcoming events and coordinating committee effectively so that they can fulfil their tasks to the highest degree. Accompanying this, we would reflect on previous events and praise the work and effort put into them, whilst evaluating anywhere that could be improved to ensure we can continually provide excellent events all year round.
This regular communication will help committee plan and keep track of upcoming events, confirm event details earlier which we can then pass onto our members through regular newsletters and social media announcements to help them plan their time. I would also develop an announcements calendar with our Media Manager to ensure we give clear and regular updates on everything going on within the society.

Having the opportunity to talk to people who have years of experience in an industry has been a major help for me in understanding what is required for my future career. Knowing this, I want to hold more guest talks from people all over the motorsport world to better reflect the diverse backgrounds and degrees of our members, that can give them insights into pathways they may not have been aware of.

I will strive to continue making our society a safe and welcoming community. Motorsport is for everyone and should be available to anyone no matter their background.
With this I want to boost our commitment to supporting our women in motorsport. This includes increasing capacity for our Women’s Give it a Go’s and more joint events with other Unis, giving more opportunities of chill karting sessions for like-minded women. I want to continue developing our current female drivers and give them more opportunities to hone their skills and to continue showing us guys up on track.

Another area where I would love to focus on is our charity events. I want to utilise the size of our society to do more charity events and incorporate it with the society’s love for karting.
This would include a month-long championship that incorporates both TdY, Enduro and BUKC performance in an F1 fantasy style system with all members being able to participate.
I will continue our collaboration with Leeds Uni Boob and Nintendo and Pokémon society along with building new relationships with other societies to raise money for charity.

This society has been the highlight of my time at Uni and has given so many experiences and friendships that I would otherwise never have come across. I would love the opportunity be on next year’s committee and give back to the society that I’ve been a part of since week one, and furthermore lead it as President into another stellar year of F1, socials and karting with all of you and the new members joining us in September.

Hi guys! My name is Vasilisa or as many of you know me as Vas, and I’m going into my third and final year studying Communications and Media. I’ve been part of this society for the past two years and can say I've participated in most events and activities this society offers. I want to nominate myself because I want to give back to the society and help others feel included and gain a new motorsport obsessed family. I personally feel like this society has helped myself and many others come out of their shell and truly make friendships and connections that’ll last forever.
Some things that you may not know about me that would definitely help the society if I were to be elected is that I work for Teamsport which is greatly beneficial when booking events and making it cheaper for everyone. I have also been to many of the northern tracks and would love to introduce a bigger variety of them to everyone, such as Manchester Trafford, Preston, Newcastle and etc.
BUKC is an integral part of this society as it allows us to compete against other universities and increase our skills and teamwork. Although I've not competed in many of the rounds, I do have my BUKC license and have done both the qualies and the final round at Whilton Mill this year as well as the 24-hour race last year. These events have taught me a lot about teamwork both on and off track as well as some much-needed racing skills. Outside of just racing I’ve done some live stream filming and marshalling which has given me although very minimal but still there connections. The whole experience has taught me a lot and is very valuable and helpful in making decisions to further develop the society.
Some of my ideas for next year would be to continue to have a large cohort of teams in the BUKC, such as 2 mains and 3 inters teams if not more. As previously mentioned, continue to hold and expand on our TdY and Enduro TdY and hold them at a bigger variety of locations and more sessions so there are more spaces for eager new members to participate without needing to learn the hard way of the ticket bloodbath, as well as have more spaces for grads to come and visit. On top of that it would be great to have more women-only events from earlier on to help them feel more comfortable and not as intimidated when entering our TdY rounds.
I want to continue to give back to this society and ensure the family feeling stays as strong as it has always been and that future years also get to enjoy it and strengthen it with their arrival. This society has grown a lot in the past years, and I want to help it to continue on this trajectory in the years to come which in turn would help our members develop and create the best environment for them to thrive in!
