Hello Leeds Motorsport Society members, hopefully most of you still remember me but for those who don’t, I’m Ben and I have been a member of the society for the last 3 years. This last year however, I have been studying abroad in the homeland of Lance Stroll, Montréal, Canada and therefore have not been quite as involved in society events. Next year, I will be back in Leeds to finish my undergraduate degree and I hope that you will vote for me so I can do that as Social Secretary for the society.
I would like to be the motorsport social secretary because I believe that social events are very important in both introducing new members into our community and for forming connections and friendships between people with similar interests. I believe as social secretary I can help to facilitate this and have a say in strengthening our society. I believe I am a good fit for the position because I am a strong leader and work very well in a team which translates perfectly to running social events.
I have always been interested in motorsport particularly in F1 and going karting with my friends from outside university, and on joining the society I have grown to love and hate (but mainly love) our karting competitions of tdy, yec and the BUKC. I do also loosely follow the BTCC, IndyCar and WRC when I have the time. And while I may not be the largest petrolhead in the world, I do have a large interest in sports performance and therefore love the training and sports science aspect of motorsport which is so often undervalued.
I have lots of relevant experience in planning, hosting and running all kinds of events from small scale nights out for my old rugby team to charity pub quizzes. Along with this, I have also had to put my research, communication and planning skills into practice countless times during my year abroad and my travelling around North America afterwards. I am not afraid of standing in front of a crowd and producing some prime waffle or of having responsibility put upon me. All together this will allow me to communicate effectively with our business partners, the university and our own committee and members to organise successful events.
During my two years in Leeds, I have been involved in many of the society’s social events, giving me experience of what works for our society, what people enjoy and the types of events suitable at different times of the year. These experiences will help me to continue our current staple social events, such as the F1 viewings, to the incredible standard set by Dan these last two years. I am also very willing to learn as I go and attempt to bring some new ideas to the society to hold bigger and better events of all kinds for all target audiences, ranging from themed Otley runs to quiz nights and much more. I can even take inspiration for events from my time in Canada, although I can admit there might be limited crossover between our society and a Canadian frat party.
From across the pond, I have also seen that this year the society has also begun to run more events with other Leeds societies, I hope to be able to strengthen and expand these relationships for our current and future members.
Most importantly, I am committed to putting in the time required to organise all of these events as I love doing it and want all our members to have a good time. While a new media manager committee position has specifically been made to help produce announcements, promotional material and run our socials, I am willing to aid whoever this ends up being in all of these tasks. I am also committed to helping the society in all the other ways required as a committee member.
Ultimately, if I am elected, I will strive to run exciting and enjoyable events to help build on the fantastic atmosphere within our society and push to make the society as popular, successful and fun as it can be.

I am very active with the society, I have become increasingly involved with many events the society has held, for example the rallies, the karting socials and been a regular at almost all the social events held, whether it be a night out, or a relaxed event such as the watch alongs, as well as being a regular driver for many of the events held by the society, allowing me to gain a crucial understanding of how the society is organised and currently run
As the potential social secretary, I would endeavour to create a more inclusive society, following on from Dan’s footsteps in trying to include more people and engaging with new members, to hopefully branching out and including new events such as sim races across the society whether at home or in a social space, and including more social events that aren’t solely based on nights out for example bowling or mini golf, which has proven to be successful in recent years. I would also strive to communicate with the motorbike society to hold joint socials and include potential events with live watchalongs, and even superbike attendance, as has been suggested (and hopefully fulfilled) this semester
I want to strive for a society that does not seem elitist with karting as its main attraction, and I aim to improve the accessibility of motorsport enjoyment and include many more people who would otherwise be afraid to join the society because the main idea of a Motorsport society seems to be that of karting, which itself sounds elitist to many students at university

For those that don’t know, my name is Meg and I am the current Vice President of the Society. I am a 2nd year English literature and language student. This year, I have decided to run for the position of Social Secretary within our Motorsport Society. If elected, I aim to build upon the excellent work done by Dan over the past few years, continuing our weekly socials. My goal is to organise a more diverse range of social events, including sober alternatives for those who prefer not to drink as excessively as others (guilty), such as motorsport themed scavenger hunts, trips to the arcade, or karaoke nights. To ensure I can make everyone happy, my plan is to kick off the year by sending out a Google Form to gather your input on the types of socials you'd like to see. While I still want to incorporate themed events, I understand the financial constraints of being a broke uni student, so I'll aim for less frequent themes. Additionally, I intend to strengthen our ties with other sports societies by arranging joint socials and continuing our partnerships with societies like Formula Student. On top of that, I'm committed to maintaining our TikTok presence, securing great discounts for society socials, and ensuring that every race is enjoyed at Walkabout (despite having to repeatedly listen to the Dutch national anthem).

Joining the Motorsport Society almost two years ago was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I was drawn to the society because of my passion for formula One, and it led me to become a part of a group of people that I love and adore. The society has played a significant role in my personal growth, helping me come out of my shell and become more confident. Our socials have become the highlight of my week, and I am so grateful for the friendships and experiences I've gained thanks to you all. Being Vice President this year has been an amazing experience. Despite the initial challenges of managing TDY points on Excel (I hate maths), watching everyones progress through each round is incredibly rewarding. Having the opportunity to contribute to the societies growth and success is something I will always be thankful for, and I am proud to be a part of it.
