Hey everyone, I’m Ed! I’m a PhD student in Mechanical Engineering, about to enter my final year (yikes!). I’ve been a member of this incredible community since 2019, served the society as Vice-Captain from 2020-21 and would love to serve the society I love so much again as your Captain next year! Here’s what I feel I can bring to the society as a committee member:

- Community and Cohesion: I’m a big believer that happiness is the key to performing at your best, so priority no.1 for me is to create an environment where people feel comfortable, support each other and are (most importantly) happy! I feel that focusing less on results and more on the experiences we have as a team will help create this dynamic.

- Collaboration: Working together is the best way for us all to become better drivers. I want to increase the amount of driver footage we gather at events in both mains and inters, and aim to host BUKC workshops analysing the footage to allow us to learn from our mistakes and improve, together.

- Clarity: People deserve to know why they have (or have not) been selected for certain teams. I aim to be as transparent as possible with licence holders about the team selection process, as well as event logistics to ensure that rounds run as smoothly as possible. I also aim to have a more open communication line with the BUKC, and push them for more clarity behind the decisions that affect our teams and our drivers (e.g. cost increases, licence re-takes, ineligible drivers).

- Competency: Having run three inters teams in the BUKC before during the pandemic, as well as the experience of running a PhD project, I believe I have the experience and skills to effectively run the society’s BUKC teams with the invaluable support of the Vice-Captain.

Thank you for taking the time to read my manifesto. I’ve always believed that societies have been the best thing about my time at uni (especially this one), and I aim to ensure that everyone who becomes a part of the society next year can create as good memories (or even better ones!) as I have.
