I’m Eva and I’m running for the role of Media Secretary because I would love to chance to become more involved with the society, especially going into my final year. Having never played any Rugby before, LUUWRUFC has increased my confidence and helped me find a sport that I really enjoy. I hope to use this role to create engaging posts that reach new members, help others find this club; a welcoming community to love throughout their time at Leeds!

I am currently a Social Media Editor for Words & Pictures, an online magazine within SCBWI (The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.) This has given me plenty of experience with meeting deadlines, managing social media accounts, and developing posts on both X and Facebook (meta business suite) for over 5000 followers. I also create a bi-weekly newsletter that details all the articles published in a new issue, and this is sent to 5000+ subscribers. While this hasn’t required many visually creative posts, I have had some experience using Canva, Constant Contact and am practicing using CapCut. It would be exciting for me to be able to have a creative outlet away from Uni work, and I think the opportunity to develop my design and marketing skills within this role would be perfect.

I tailed Bella at the Christie Cup, during the team’s warm up, and pestered her with questions about what she was doing and the media coverage she was aiming to get (I hope to do the same with Varsity.) So if I am elected, I should have a good idea of the expectations of this role on the whole, and especially how important the club’s media presence is in the lead up to big sporting events!

In terms of the social side of the club, I would love to bring back ‘Pic of the Week’ or a ‘Weekly Round Up’, whether these are posted as stories and then put in highlights, or on the feed. I think that these would help promote the social side of the club and get more people to want to join, including those who may not want to actually play the sport, but to experience the society as a social member. Similarly, I would reveal the social theme on either the Wednesday or Thursday morning, again to hopefully get people invested in how LUUWRUFC works socially and the sorts of themes to expect. As someone who joined as a second-year dev, I think I would be able to offer a fresh insight and friendly replies to any freshers with questions at the start of the year and in general.

On Instagram stories, I’d aim to provide live updates of Wednesday matches as much as possible, whether I attend them myself or get club members to send me pics/videos with a running score. I’ve seen other university sports accounts do this and I think it could be a fun way of having followers interact and get invested in the matches and their results. Regarding welfare, I’ll work with the sec’s to make sure that any people in photos/videos posted across the socials have given their permission for them to be used. I’ll also maintain any and all posts necessary for the upkeep of the club’s sponsorships, this will involve helping sponsorship secretaries spreading the word to find new sponsors, and updating the current story highlights for main sponsors, like Pickards. Any posts related to Pickards, like the ‘Pickards Players of the Match’ can be posted to an instagram story and put into the highlight.

I also hope to continue growing the club’s TikTok by keeping up with trends as much as possible and making videos at socials and training/matches. Some of these could include silly interviews with members like asking the team if they have any pre-match superstitions, getting different members to do days in the life slideshows, etc… I think that increasing LUUWRUFC's presence across other social's would help reach different audiences and potentially a wider breadth of people. I love the current TikTok account and think that there have been some really good videos, but I do feel that they could be more regular and this is my goal!

I would love the chance to be LUUWRUFC's next Media Secretary and feel that I have a lot to offer and in terms of experience and new ideas. Thank you for any and all consideration!

Hello Luuwrufc, I am Carly, and I would love to be considered for the position of Media Secretary. I am a first-year fresher and have never played or thought about rugby in my life, until I spoke to this year's committee at the freshers' fair. You guys were the nicest society I talked to, and were very keen to get everyone involved. I could not imagine university without this club, and I would love the chance to help bring more people into this club and show it off as it deserves.

I am currently doing my degree in graphic design and communications, but have been studying graphic design for years in college and school. I have been consistently working on my skills to create posters, animations and campaigns by using all the apps on Adobe. Not only does this give me the technical skills to make some fun and interesting posts, but I can also do it fast and effectively to meet deadlines. I also love using CapCut and TikTok to edit videos. Personally my favourite is my tour bitch video, however i’m not sure if getting tour bitch means you guys loved the video or not. This is an aspect I would love to help grow as I think TikTok could draw people to luuwrufc.

I have made some graphics for the club's Instagram for varsity already, I made the countdown to help Bella. This has already given me some ideas for potential posts and themes for the club's social media. I also have great pride in my work and will not share it until it is 100% perfect and I am happy for you guys to see it. So helping the club in this way has given me some great experience into what it would be like if you guys would elect me.

My first objective of the club is to take full advantage of Instagram to show off our socials, we have 2000 followers and counting. By posting more on our stories, creating engaging posts and organising our highlights. I think this then gives us a good look when potential members will look through the page and see how fun we are! Not only will this attract new freshers, but it is also fun for our current club as we can have a laugh and share more of our photos. Posting more could include: what the social is and the information, anonymous stories of the evening, best and worst dressed and silly little trends like that.

A big aim for me would be to post more; the increase of activity will draw more people to the club and show potential new members a good idea of what being in Luuwrufc is like. A couple of ideas I had for the club would be to show off the Wednesday socials by posting on TikTok and making collages and short-form content videos of the night, and posting them the next day. Post about important days like awareness months and days (like breast cancer awareness month), and how we can support in and out of training.

My main ideas are more aimed at the overall look of our club, by creating a consistent and fun page to look at. I have some ideas on how to showcase the new committee, pre- and post-match videos and showing off some of our extra activities we do that some people may not know about. Like the luuwrufc band, the run club and counting. I want to include everyone in the club in all aspects. I want everyone to have a say in what our image should be. I think it is important that we all feel part of this club, and if elected, I intend to do so.
