Position: Sponsorship Secretary

Hey everyone, I’m Ollie and I am applying to be one of your Sponsorship Secretaries for the 2025/26 season.
Since joining LUUWRUFC in September, it has very quickly taken over my life in the best way possible. Although I’ve been playing rugby for 6 years, I’ve never been part of a club as supportive (or as fun) as this one, which is one of the reasons why I’d love to have the opportunity to give back to you all through the role of sponsorship sec.
I believe I can continue the amazing work done this year, by both Daisy and Molly, by bringing a hardworking attitude to the task of increasing club funding to allow LUUWRUFC to grow further.
My aim for next year is to increase funding for the club; I hope to do this through maintaining a strong relationship with Pickard Properties while also branching out to other companies and businesses to find possible sponsors. I’m aware that Pickards dropped our funding last year from £2500 to £2100, so a key aim is to try and regain that £400 for the upcoming season. I’m also not afraid to utilise family relations within the club when searching for new sponsorship as this is a great way to gain a reliable sponsor as well as involving the wider club in the sponsorship role. I think I am well suited to this area as I worked as a House Captain throughout Y13 and regularly liaised with the Senior Leadership Team and external organisations about whole school events that I had to plan and run. From this role I gained experience in leadership, organisation, networking, and in meeting deadlines, all of which I believe will help me in this role – I’m also very good at writing emails and won’t be put off by rejection :)
Throughout sixth form, I worked alongside both Y12 and Y13 students on multiple fundraising initiatives for two local causes, during our annual Charity Week. These were The Sussex Snowdrop Trust (2022-2023) and Stop Domestic Abuse (2023 -2024), and we were able to raise over £10,000 for each charity. We achieved this through the organisation and running of sponsored fancy dress parades and daily entertainment such as staff panel quizzes and lip synch battles during lunch break. In addition, we coordinated, choreographed, sought sponsorship for and performed two fashion/dance shows for audiences of around 300 people. I was inspired by Daisy and Molly’s fundraising initiative this year when raising £1,210 for Cancer Research and £3,297 for Alzheimer’s Research UK and I hope to demonstrate my own ability in this role whilst supporting a local charity at the same time. Were I to be successful in securing this position I would work with the wider club to choose a cause to support next year, however, my initial research has led me in the direction of Leeds Women’s Aid. This charity works to provide domestic violence and abuse services to women in Leeds and they have been making a difference for over 50 years.
Another aspect of this role that I am looking forward to is being able to further LUUWRUFC’s community work by continuing our involvement in the Societies into Schools program. I think this is a brilliant way to teach club members new skills while also introducing a sport I love to young people and is something I would really like to be a part of next year.
I really hope to make next year’s fundraising as enjoyable for everyone as possible, with more club-wide activities such as sponsored fun runs, inter-society tournaments, and the continuation of the 3 Peaks Challenge that so many club members took part in this year.

Hi guys! I’m Charlie and I’m putting myself forward to be one of the Sponsorship Secs for the 25/26 season. Joining LUUWRUFC has been the best part of my uni experience so far. From day one, the club has been so welcoming and supportive, and it’s made such a difference. That’s why I’m really passionate about making sure the club secures the funding it needs- not just to keep competing at a high level, but to make sure that everyone, no matter their financial situation, has the chance to get involved and feel the same sense of belonging I do.
Firstly, I think I would be a good Sponsorship Sec as I’ve got first-hand experience securing and managing funding for a rugby team. Last year, after only a few months of playing, I was made captain of my school’s team. I knew that if we wanted to progress to start competing against other schools, we’d need better equipment. So, I took initiative to write to the governing body of the school’s trust and managed to secure £1000 in funding. I also reached out to a local kit manufacturer, who agreed to supply us with kit at a discount to help support the growth of women’s rugby in all-girls schools.
I think it’s really important to maintain our strong relationship with Pickards, but I’d also love to seek out new opportunities to bring in additional sponsors that benefit both the club and the businesses involved. One idea could be to involve businesses and services we already use, such as Revs, as a way to engage members in sponsorship efforts while offering businesses a strong incentive to partner with us. I’m also not afraid to put the club out there and reach out to potential sponsors- I genuinely do enjoy writing emails! With the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup coming up this summer, we’ve got a great chance to capitalise on the growing visibility of women’s rugby. Making it the perfect time to attract new sponsors and show them the value of supporting a club like ours.
Along with many of my fellow club members, the Riley Award nominated Three Peaks campaign was one of my highlights of the year and something that particularly drew me towards Sponsorship Sec. I’m passionate about continuing the amazing work Molly and Daisy have done for charity and I’d love to build on that next season. I think making the Three Peaks, or a similar challenge, an annual tradition would be a great way to strengthen community in and around the club. Next season, I’d love to explore new fundraising ideas like a charity touch tournament, sponsored Strava challenges, and events with LUUWRUFC run club. In particular, I would like to partner with the Welfare Secs to organise a charity touch tournament for a cause like ‘Sport In Mind’, promoting the incredible positive impact that sport can have on our mental wellbeing- something I’ve experienced first-hand through the positive effect sport has had on my own mental health.
I feel that I have been an active member of the club since I joined and, if elected as Sponsorship Sec, I want to be a friendly face on committee that helps keep things running smoothly. I’ve got experience juggling a lot across different areas, so time management is one of my strengths (I literally plan my days hour by hour in my Notes app- bit much, I know!). I’ve also done a lot of volunteering and charity work in the past, which I’d love to carry forward into this role. Plus, I’ve already got loads of ideas for potential merch- starting with joggers that have LUUWRUFC on the bum ;)
I have loved my time with LUUWRUFC so far, and I hope if I'm elected as Sponsorship Sec I can give back to the club, raise money for charities we all really care about and promote the investment in women’s sport.
