Hi, everyone! I’m Nic, a 3rd year Economics and Maths student currently on placement. You might know me best for spamming the WhatsApp group chat and questionable nights out in Wales, but in my 2nd year I was the Vice-Captain and now with my 4th and final year at Leeds coming up I am seeking your endorsement to take on the role of Captain. Spending the majority of this BUKC season on the side line with injury, as well as generally being away from the society, has really motivated me to make my final season the best it can be for everyone, and I can think of no better way to do that than to lead this special team.

To maintain our significant presence within the BUKC, I will secure at least five teams for us next season. The possibility of six teams is also on the table, but I recognise this is highly budget dependent and I will liaise with the next Treasurer on whether this is possible with the current BUKC subsidy applied. We are more than capable of being competitive across both the Mains and Inters Championships and having a full house of 20+ drivers for every round of the last two seasons, something no other university has managed, means I believe that we are in a strong position to achieve this.

Following the fantastic results this year in Inters there are plenty of drivers who are ready to compete in Mains, but I would like to keep enough Inters teams to give more inexperienced drivers the chance to show their ability. This was a chance I was given as a 1st year with little competitive karting experience, and I want that opportunity to be afforded to others so they can compete with us in the BUKC and potentially even move on to CLUB100 with our alumni squad in the longer term. Having a strong Inters presence also means we continue the team’s current ethos, one which strives to be as competitive as we can but also embraces newcomers with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

To that end, I will endeavour to scope out talent amongst freshers as best as possible, as well as ensuring that this year’s TdY and BUKC 24 Hour competitors without a BUKC license, who have shown potential to represent us in the BUKC, also get their deserved opportunities. One thing you can always rely on with me as Captain is that test day and team selections will be fair and equitable, with my stint as Vice-Captain in 2021 providing firm evidence for this.

It would be my pleasure to serve on the committee again and I look forward to working not only with the next Vice-Captain but all future committee members to make 2023/24 another fantastic year for this society. To have seen it grow and flourish the last few years into something which means so much to so many people will push us even harder to continue its success.

My name is Henry Hudson, I am a second year Journalism student and as many of you may know I have been the Vice-Captain of Leeds Motorsport for the past year. I believe that the experience I have gained over the last year as Vice-Captain makes me the best candidate to succeed as Captain for next year. Over the last twelve months, I have led and assisted our BUKC teams in achieving some fantastic results, from qualifying an impressive five BUKC teams on a challenging qualifying day in November to helping the A team achieve a Clubman victory at PFI.
Jake and I have worked tirelessly throughout the year picking teams, organising logistics and sorting accommodation for all rounds of the BUKC. I have welcomed our new drivers into the competitive world of the BUKC and helped train and develop them on and off the track as they grew as racers, helping our Inters teams to secure consistently strong results. I have also been able to acquire a sixth BUKC Inters team for the final round of the season this year and I will ensure we can keep this team permanent for next year providing even more opportunities for those wanting to compete in the BUKC and making Leeds Motorsport one of the biggest forces in the championship.
Personally, I have also developed greatly as a driver, making the step up to become a consistent A team driver who has remained competitive in the Mains championship and securing a top-10 finish and aiding in our BUKC Clubman victory in my first ever Mains round. Outside of BUKC, I have also supported the rest of the Motorsport committee in organising our social events and helping out at as many events as I could attend. I believe that by making the step up to Captain for next year, I can continue to be as hard working and dedicated as Jake has been as Captain this year, continuing the success of Leeds Motorsport in the BUKC.
I pride myself on being supportive, approachable and organised so that I can ensure all of our drivers, new or experienced, can have the best time possible competing in a sport that I love so much.
