Heading into my final year at Leeds, I’d love to give back to this incredible society by being your social sec again. My current year in this role has been an insane amount of fun, meeting so many new faces and welcoming back some (very) old ones. I want to build on all I’ve learnt over the last year to make this an even more engaging and inclusive society that makes members want to come back for more.

I have loved organising events for the society, from nights out to pub crawls, quizzes and weekly pub catch ups, giving you guys the best deals on food and drink where I can. If I am lucky enough to carry on next year, this will only continue, with more opportunities for all our members to meet new people and socialise on the regular. I’ve also been very lucky to build some invaluable relationships with companies and their people while dealing with socials, perhaps most significantly the people at Walkabout Pub; we set record numbers with over 200 attendees at some of our F1 viewings, an insanely rewarding sight which has continued to leave me speechless and absolutely over the moon. I’d love to carry on giving that opportunity to everyone in and out of the society and hopefully attendance numbers will only grow.

It's not just about our current uni members though, it’s always been important to me to keep the old grey-haired alumni involved with the society as much as possible… what’s that Dent? I said IT’S ALWAYS BEEN IMPORTANT TO ME TO KEEP THE OLD GREY-HAIRED- never mind. Next year will see the departure of a lot of our members, but I love how much of a family the society is to everyone. If I am social sec next year, I’ll be making sure that the involvement of alumni is as great and, if not, better than it was this year. Also, who doesn’t want to see 8-pint Jack absolutely wankered at Fruity.

Along with our socials, I’ll (again, hopefully) be continuing to head up our social media, doing my best to provide you with entertaining content throughout the year, whether it be live from BUKC and TdY rounds or doing what I love through making over-the-top graphics for our posts. This year has seen a new branding/social media identity for the society and I can’t wait to build on that next year. It’s been great seeing our engagement grow on Instagram, WhatsApp, Discord, Facebook, and even LinkedIn. These are also some of our best ways of getting new members involved with the society at the start of the year and I’ve really enjoyed that aspect of the role. I hope to carry on with it in the future and help establish the society as an even greater community of like-minded fans. And as always, whether you vote me in or not, I’ll still be around to take more sexy photos of all you lovely lot at our events ;)
