When I was young I was interested in two main things. The emergency services (and by extension emergency medicine) and ergonomics. My dream job was an interior ambulance designer - but i soon realised that that particular job role doesn’t really exist. As I’ve grown older those interests have morphed and changed. The ergonomics has morphed into town and city planning and by extension transport planning but the emergency services element seemed to fall by the wayside. I kept the interest alive for as long as I could going to every fire station open day possible as a kid to a perhaps slightly embarrassing age (my year 6 leavers photo is me in a full body vacuum splint at a fire station open day) and i joined St John’s Ambulance as a child although I left after 3 years as I got fed up of the lack of medical action (- although who was I kidding I was probably about 10 😂).

CFR has given me the opportunity to reinvigorate that emergency services interest that I have, allowing me to go to real emergency calls. 10 year old me would be amazed.

All the while CFR has helped me to burst the university bubble - allowing me to see see the real Leeds at its best and worst.

I think I would be a great president because I’m enthusiastic and engaged with the uni CFR and YAS community. I also recognise the petrifying nature that CFRing can sometimes be - when I started I definitely felt a sense of imposter syndrome working with paramedics, but the truth is having done some calls you learn so much more on calls than you do in the training room. Stuff that I hope I can teach to the new and existing CFRs. I hope to see the society expand (and maybe get that second kit back!!) and save some lives (or perhaps more likely attend the non urgent cases so YAS has spare resources to go to the more urgent ones 😂).
