The role of secretary generally involves organising people and answering a lot of questions about the club. The secretary has to be on top of all of the events happening with the club throughout the semester in order to send the weekly, trip and social emails as well as completing other smaller jobs here and there. There is a lot of emailing involved, however this is not the only job! Other responsibilities of the secretary include organising waiting lists, working with the treasurer to manage cancellations/ refunds/ IOTC’s, ensuring that trip sheets are up to date when changes are made and taking the minutes at committee meetings. In addition, being able to step in to take the lead on club trips, supporting other committee members on their roles and generally working to make the club run as smoothly (and as organised) as possible, will make you a great candidate!
The role is relatively flexible, however many of these jobs do need to be done weekly and you need to keep a track of everything that is going on. If you're crazy about being organised, love to send emails and answering all kinds of questions that people have about the club, then the role of secretary will be well suited to you!
