Hello you lovely lot!!!!
I hope Easter has been treating you well and you all haven’t been missing cricket too much.
I am VERY excited to be putting myself forward for treasurer next year. I fear this club has become a major part of my personality and I would be lost without it, so giving something back feels only right.
First things first… I do a maths degree. I know, shocking that I’ve finally found a way to make it relevant, but it does mean I actually enjoy working with numbers (slightly concerning, I’m aware). Alongside that, I’m very comfortable with Excel . Formulas? Love. A well-organised budget? Even better. Also, excitingly, I’ve got an internship in accounting this summer. Some may think this is great future career experience, but no, I say what better way to learn how to be a treasurer and pick up some real-life, non-Wednesday night financial skills to bring into the role.
To introduce myself a bit further I have been lucky enough to play cricket for as long as I can remember. From it starting out as an excuse for the Sunday picnic and being far too distracted doing cartwheels on the field to care about the game, to becoming the only girl on my school team, cricket has always been a huge part of my life. Uni has rekindled my love for the sport and just highlights the incredible community that comes with it.
This year I’ve absolutely loved being around everything the club does. I’ve loved seeing how everything works behind the scenes and how much effort goes into keeping the club running smoothly. It’s definitely made me appreciate just how important the treasurer role is, especially as the club keeps growing. Watching the number of playing members increase has been so exciting, and it’s made it really clear how important it is to budget properly for things like kit, training resources, and match days so everyone gets the most out of being part of the club. Next year, I’m really excited about exploring the idea of having another BUCS squad. This would be such a great opportunity for more girls to get involved in the game. However, this would mean a real need for good financing. I would strive to ensure that this growth is possible, so next year we can get even more people playing this fab sport.
I absolutely LOVE how much the club offers - from big socials to sober ones, training sessions to match days, and I’d love to help make sure everyone can continue to be involved in whatever way they enjoy most. I’d love to look into things like making it easier for people to come and watch games – because honestly, watching our teams play has been one of my favourite parts of this year and I think more people would love it if they had the chance. I have loved the coffee catchups this year and I will definitely be doing everything to enable these being a regular part of the week. It might just be the half marathon dominating my mind at the moment, but I’m also really excited about the idea of a run club next year, with a much needed coffee afterwards. Also, I’ve heard a few members are falling for the paddle craze going round right now, and I would love to sprinkle a few subsidised club padel trips throughout the year!
On top of that, I’d like to think I’m a friendly and approachable face, so if anyone ever has questions about money, memberships, or anything finance related, I’d always be happy to help.
It couldn’t be a nomination for treasurer without talking about ex social sec, rich sec, exec, no passport girl Bella. The clubs growth this year could not have been achieved without Bella. Not only does she single handedly bring the crazy to the club (not the vapes/keys though as they’re normally lost) I know first-hand that she has personally made so many people’s experiences within women’s cricket. For those unlucky ones who weren’t here last year, as you can probably imagine Bella managed to unlock infinite fun glitch every Wednesday. This year I know she’s gone above and beyond in every way possible. She has set the bar very high and will be so so incredibly missed next year. I would love to follow in her footsteps as much as possible (whilst holding firmly on to my passport). New rich sec…
More than anything, I just LOVE this club. Whether it’s socials, training, matches, or just seeing everyone, it genuinely is my favourite part of uni. I’d be so grateful for the chance to be part of committee and help ensure that everyone next year loves it just as much!!!
