Hello Ladies,

I have such vivid memories of my first ever experience of UOLWCC. It was beer Olympics, only a few weeks into my time in Leeds. I remember my walk there and my confusion by what Moorside even was (this still stands). I was so nervous of what I was about to walk into, but I can say now this now with confidence it was the best decision I have ever made. I think fresher me would be honestly shocked of the impact this club has had on my uni experience and all the friendships which I have made. Gen would be a massive loner without you all. Therefore, it would be a great honor to run for secretary.

First of all, I would like to thank this year’s exec committee for everything you have done to keep the club running so smoothly behind scenes. I have so much admiration for all three of you. Your care, energy and passion are what make this club tick. Although next year will feel very different, we have been incredibly lucky to have had you and you will all be greatly missed.

Anyway, enough of the soppiness. Now onto me…

This year I have had had the honour of being dev sec (woooo), where I have had the joy of running the development side of our club. It has been so lovely to get to know so many of you, and watch you all develop and grow in confidence throughout the year. Although it will be difficult let go of the reins of the Sunday League. I look forward to another year playing in what seems the most competitive indoor league in the country, and, hopefully be able to beg the treasurer to budget the all-important knee pads(?) which seem to be highly popular within the Horsforth community. Maybe this is where we have been going wrong all along idk?

However, I would say the biggest lesson I have learnt from my year as dev sec and something to aim for next year is to have tamer Saturday nights, and maybe don’t go to mischief specials. I can say from experience it never ends well, but thank goodness for Lidl bakery bags I guess.

Anyway , this moves me onto nicely some other aims for next year (ok linking paragraphs). Some key aims of mine would be looking into the possibility of a 2nd XI into outdoor BUCS which would provide more girls access to BUCS cricket, something which would allow a continuation of this year’s growth. Most importantly I would also hope to work alongside the club captain to maintain the inclusive, fun-loving environment we have built on this year.

A key part of secretary is being able to communicate effectively not only with the lovely ladies which make up this club, but also external parties such as the union. Firstly, I have the ability to talk for England, and with my non-existent inside voice I will be able to make sure the entirety of women’s cricket (and a large proportion of eddy b) is fully kept up to date with all things UOLWCC. I am, also, not scared to send a Karen-like email from time to time, especially for matters which are important to me. The lovely woman behind LUU events can vouch for this after receiving my slightly blunt and unhappy email about why I had not received my fruity black card in the first week of term #prized possession (sorry ,not sorry Tallulah).

Lastly, but most importantly after googling what a secretary does, I found out that phone calls are a key element. But you will be glad to know I have recently conquered my irrational fear of using the phone and now book my own hairdressers’ appointments so will be now eager to call anyone about anything and everything UOLWCC #personalgrowth.

Lastly, it brings me great sadness to let you all know that next year’s ball will not be given the London look, unfortunately.

But hear me out… how about the all new Popworld look?! I have been lucky enough to experience two unforgettable balls during my time organised by the lovely Kate and Lauren so I fully understand the pressure is on to perform on the biggest day of the calendar year. But as they say pressure makes diamonds, and I’m ready for the challenge that awaits me…

Here is to another year of taking wickets, popworld and always bleeding green.
