Cricket, oh cricket, you have been the absolute highlight of my first year. Quite literally everyone who knows me knows my love for cricket, because I do not shut up about it. Despite all the nights drinking pints of piss (aka Tesco’s own-brand cider) and waking up still drunk with last night’s face paint on (RIP my bedsheets). I wouldn’t change it for the world, because I have met the most amazing girls ever, with every social being better than the last, and my interactions with Men’s Cricket in Chief becoming progressively worse (sorry to anyone who has had to witness me being Leeds’ most annoying drunk).

Joining cricket by myself at the very first social was absolutely terrifying, and definitely not aided by the fact I lost every single challenge (including the bark off), but it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Importantly, I would say part of the reason I have decided to go for Social Media Sec is how inviting the social media has made cricket seem, hghlighting how much of a community there is thanks to the one and only Esme Brown. So, I thought: what better way to show my appreciation than to continue the legacy and show just how much of a community UOLWCC is through TikTok and Instagram? Although I’m afraid to admit I don’t have a digi cam… but that might be a good thing if Bella’s about.

Some of the new ideas I have to do this include:

* Monthly dumps for socials to show just how fun we all are (I promise I’ll do a masterclass on Canva — even making use of the premium features even though it means I have to sacrifice some of the uni budget).

* Post-match interviews alongside the post-match results that are already posted.

* Post-social interviews at the haven that is Roll.

* Cricketer of the month, with a post dedicated to someone to show our admiration.

* Player profiles for those consistently playing in matches.

* Fun TikTok challenges and interviews at socials.

* More midnight game shows, because they crack me up — maybe some special collabs with Men’s Cricket, as I’m sure me and Beinart (Men’s future Social Media Sec) could cook up a storm, as well as collaborating with other societies such as lacrosse, hockey, and boxing.

Outside of these new ideas, I know that communication is a super important aspect of the role. For example, communicating with other members of committee such as the First team captain, Dev sec and Netball Sec for the team sheets as well as being active at replying to the Instagram DMs as quickly and politely as possible. Making them feel as invited and as heard as possible is my priority, which is definitely aided by how how chatty and sociable I am hence the rasp after every social. I also want to shine a light on the few-but-mighty cricket players by filming content at both hardball and softball sessions. Despite it meaning sacrificing my daily nap time as the role of Media Sec would far outshine my need to sleep! Shock horror, I may even actually play cricket if I’m not injured for once, as I think a key part of being Media Sec means highlighting both the sport and the socials.

Lastly, I’m sure you’ll all be happy to hear I got a 9 in GCSE Photography and did an internship with a local photographer, so you can all expect the best Media Day photos, with my history of using cameras and camera tech such as lighting, as well as my excitement to experiment at the Helix with the photography space.

At the end of the day, my main goal would be to show everyone exactly who cricket is, and why everyone should want to be a part of it. Because I know I've had the best time ever.

HELLO lovely members of UOLWCC and what a fabulous day to be uploading what is going to be the second most important piece of work I will do at uni (Obviously coming after my AGM presentation xx)🏏☀️

It’s a pleasure to even be applying for a role in the best club in Leeds, but here I go. Women’s cricket has been, and no exaggeration here, my best decision since I started uni this year. It all began with a bit of an awkward and drunken conversation with my new flatmate (an actual county cricket player) about how I was also county level (I played county when I was about 11). This quickly led to a visit to the freshers fair, the lovely Lauren London showcasing crickets best values, followed by a quick purchase of a membership🤭 and oh how I wish I knew the wonderful friends and memories I would make (please can I be a member of this club forever?)

There are many reasons why media sec is what I’ve been drawn to. Starting off strong, who wouldn’t want to be Esme Brown when they grow up? The social accounts have helped to showcase the warm and incredible community we have and I’d love the opportunity to be even half of the media sec that she is (maybe even half the midnight gameshow host?). Secondly, for a girl who loves making content, this role would give me the chance to develop my canva skills, meet even more of the lovely club members, as well as show newbies why we are the obvious option for their uni experience! And so, Ive come up with a list of ideas I have to try and achieve this, including:

- More TikTok content during training sessions, including getting people mic’d up for some true words of wisdom and to showcase the actual cricket side of things

- A story post for the best dressed fresher/old girl each social (hoping this will incentivise some serious outfit commitments)

- Live story posts during games to keep people updated on scores

- More collaborative content with other societies (in particular more midnight game shows, as I feel too many of you have managed to avoid this). Im living with a cricket boy next year and so some Mens/Womens cricket content would be evolutionary

- Individual player profiles for those playing in matches frequently

- Post/pre match interviews of players

- More content to highlight charities we are working with and events to try and encourage more people to get involved (would LOVE to organise a 24 hours in eddy b or spoons)

- There would be a post dedicated to the otley run social as I do feel this would be necessary.

I’d like to put more of a focus next year on the cricket side of things, with more content of matches and both hard/soft ball training. I’m keen to get back to the slightly above par player (seriously generous) I used to be, and so I’m definitely keen to attend as many training sessions as possible next year. I’d also like to get more coverage of charity events we do within the club, and so this would involve speaking with the charity and welfare sec. Communication is an important part of this role, and so I’d be sure to communicate with committee members such as first team captain and dev sec to get team sheets and scores for the instagram. Additionally, I’d be sure to promptly reply to any DM’s. Going into first year can be super daunting, as I know it was for me, but the welcoming energy from everyone in this club was a large part of what made it doable for me and so I’ll be sure to channel my chatty side and be as inviting as possible!

Now an exciting piece of info, I HAVE A DIGI CAM (Bella will be going nowhere near). This obviously means social dumps will be of nothing but the highest quality and I can really continue Esme’s legacy to the fullest. I’ve always loved photography and social media, I’m even aiming to go into a job in social media marketing (that’s if Wednesday nights don’t make me the only one to ever fail first year). My passion for everything social media would hopefully land us with a couple famous tiktoks (UOLWCC go worldwide?) and hopefully help us to reach more people to grow the best club even bigger.

Cricket has been a part of my uni experience that I wouldn’t change for the world, and so I’d love to be media sec to show everyone why joining us would be their best decision too. ❤️🏏

I’m Lara and I’m running for Media Secretary!



I’m currently in my first year studying Social and Political Sciences (after switching courses, so technically my second year in Leeds), and I joined cricket this year after hearing how much my friends loved it last year (shoutout 24bruhhhhh). I’ll admit I was a bit nervous joining as a second-year fresher, but it was genuinely one of the best decisions I’ve made. I can’t express how much I’ve enjoyed this year - I’ve met so many amazing people and made so many unforgettable memories through this club.

That’s a big part of why I want to be Social Media Sec: I want to show how welcoming and fun this society is. Whether you’ve played cricket your whole life or have never picked up a bat, this is honestly the society to join, and I’d love to promote that. I want to keep everyone up to date with special events and matches while also showing potential new members how enjoyable it is.



I would say that I’m a welcoming and approachable person, and I’m always happy to help. If anyone reaches out needing support, I’ll respond quickly to dms from non-members and members and make sure they’re directed to the right person. I’m reliable when it comes to communication (my screen time definitely more than proves that), so no message will ever go unanswered for long.



I also feel like I’ve been unofficially training for this role all year as I love taking photos and videos - probably a bit too much. Every Thursday morning, I wake up to at least 100 new pictures and videos from the night before - content that probably shouldn’t see the light of day (but somehow always does).

I am fully committed to documenting both actual cricket and the post-match chaos after.



For context, I currently have over 77,000 photos on my phone (not even including Snapchat), and more than 2000 tiktok drafts which is slightly concerning but also feels like relevant experience. I also spend an unhealthy amount of time on Instagram anyway, so I might as well make it productive by keeping everyone up to date with the society’s best moments. I have some experience using Canva, and I’m really excited to keep improving my design skills and learn more about how to use it creatively for the club.



I went on Tour, attended the cricket ball, and had 100% attendance to Wednesday socials this year. So it’s fair to say I’ve covered many corners of women’s cricket life. Next year, I plan to get even more involved by attending and documenting cricket and netball matches, and using the TikTok account to highlight both the funny side of the society and the impressive talent of the players. I have many TikTok ideas for Freshers’ Fair aimed at boosting visibility, attracting new members, and hopefully going a little bit viral in the process…

I also plan to share match results for both cricket and netball. I’m really looking forward to continuing coming to training and supporting the teams at their matches.



Esme (my mum btw - some may say keep it in the family…) has done an outstanding job as Media Secretary this year, and I hope to build on her work and continue showcasing UOLWCC as the fantastic society it truly is.



Overall, I’d genuinely love the role. This society has given me so much this year, and I’d love to give something back by capturing all the moments that make it so special—on and off the pitch. Thanks for taking the time to read this and be prepared, because my camera will be in your faces at every training session and social, capturing top quality content everyone’s going to love!
