Hey everyone!! I’m Jess and I would LOVE to be your development sec next year!

Joining UOLWCC as a nervous fresher, I had no idea the fun that was in store for me. From leaving my first ever social early, to now having Wednesday night withdrawals when not at uni, I have thrived and truly owe my uni experience to this fab society. Having played cricket from a young age, uni was a great opportunity to respark my love for it, and being dev sec would be a full circle moment.

Cricket has been a huge part of my first year at uni and I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for all the amazing ladies that make this club the best society EVER. A special mention to the current committee and all the hard work they put in to running this club. Especially ex dev sec Lucy Popworld; I hope I can live up to her legendary title.

The current coaches Millie and Sally also deserve a massive thank you, as they have inspired me to complete the coaching scholar scheme next year. This goes hand in hand with the role of dev sec and it will allow me to become an integral part of development training. I have been a regular at all things UOLWCC, personally making the jump from development training to being a regular member of the hard ball training squad, and I want to be able to encourage others to do the same. Seeing how welcoming everyone was in the GIAG at that start of the year really pushed me to continue, and I strive to be that friendly and approachable face for new members.

Development matches were one of the highlights of my week and bringing my car to uni next year will allow me to easily transport players to and from matches, with the potential post-match Lidl bakery trip. Not for Lucy though as I’m not having a repeat of the Lidl bakery bag incident...

Within this role I am excited to work with other committee members, particularly the fixture sec in organising more dev games in the summer. I would also love to potentially work with the exec for a second XI BUCS team, as this would increase playing opportunities for members of the club. Lastly, after being encouraged to make the jump myself, I will work with the first team captain to overview player development into Wednesday nets from Friday training.

Outside of training, I am involved within all aspects of the club. attending socials, competing in the modern dance charity showcase – despite my lack of dance ability, and I am a big fan of |T| on a Thursday. This level of commitment has meant that I have been able to meet those from all parts of the society. Hopefully next year I can inspire some more social members to add Friday training into their cricketing week!

Overall, I am so excited for what next year will bring, and I look forward to seeing you all at the AGM!!
